CLOWN/HELPING HANDS MINISTRY

Think about this: You come home from work or school. You are tired and hungry. What do you do? You open the refrigerator or cupboard and grab a snack. In fact, things may look so good; you grab two or three snacks. Then, a few hours later it is meal time. Well, for many in northeast Ohio, and even in our own neighborhood, there is no such thing as a snack. For some, it is even difficult to get a meal. One way that we can help those less fortunate is by donating to our food pantry. Currently, the supply of canned goods in our food pantry is very low. Please consider donating some essentials. Food items packaged in flip top cans are preferred. Other suggestions are peanut butter, soup, vegetables, fruits and toiletry items. Kindly drop off any items in the church narthex or parish office. Mark them “Helping Hands”. Thank you for your generosity. IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD.

THE SYMBOLON CATHOLIC FAITH EXPLAINED

The Last Things: What Happens after We Die The Church has long taught that prayerful consideration of the Four Last Things – death, judgment, heaven and hell – is an essential part of our growth and maturation as Christians. Unless and until we take these things seriously, our life here on earth will lack meaning and focus. Come to the October session of Symbolon to come face to face with topics we often avoid. You may attend either session: at St Paschal on October 8 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Eymard Room or at St Clare on October 11 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the Harvest Room. There is no registration fee, so please just come and become part of this exciting adult faith formation program. This is the last session of Symbolon for this calendar year. If you have any questions or would like further information, call Rosalie Lewis at 440-227-8718.

YOUTH MINISTRY

“He wants you entirely for Himself, He wants you to place all your trust and all your affection in Him alone and it is precisely for this reason that He sends you this spiritual aridity, to unite you more closely to Him.” -St. Padre Pio This week we in Youth Group are going to focus on how we are CHOSEN. We are all on a journey through life. We are all moving...but where are we going? Where does this journey end? When we lead a life of faith, we not only learn who God is, but who He has called each of us to be. We are called and we are chosen to be His disciples!

FROM FATHER LANE, SSS, OUR 8 TH PASTOR:

262626 ththth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Today’s Gospel reminds us that certain elements of our life may be our “downfall.” Or perhaps another way of looking at these things, a little more painfully, what are we jealous of in others? Jesus does not want folks to sin. Nor tattle! Jesus is calling for an inclusive, all are welcome approach to bring people into his fold. There is no “club” or membership with Jesus, doing something the right way or the wrong way. Rather, people will condemn themselves if they choose to ignore God’s call and the gifts that God has given them. The Letter of James also reminds us that those who are elite will atone for the way they live their life. These Scriptures offer us a great reminder in a culture that is becoming very restrictive and fearful that Jesus calls all to his table of love. Why would we want to limit God’s love and grace?

Suggestion: In the Fickel Narthex we have a poster of pictures, sharing the photos and names of our parishioners and relatives in the service of our country. If you would like that person to receive mail from our parishioners, please share their address with me so that I may have a few of our parishioners, and students in our school, write notes of encouragement, prayer and support.

October Fun: We always have very special happenings in October, Respect Life month. May I remind you of the following? • Join in the recitation of the Rosary, weekdays at 7:30 a.m. when recite one decade. At 8:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday, we recite an entire rosary. • This Tuesday is our annual “Blue Mass,” praying and supporting our first responders and civic leaders with a special school Mass at 9:00 a.m. • Next Sunday is Respect Life Sunday – with a special time of prayer and public witness from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Wilson Mills Road. Let us pray for all life, from conception until a natural death! • Next Sunday is our annual Pet Blessing, in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi at 1:30 p.m. by the flagpole and new sign. Park in the horseshoe lot on Wilson Mills Road – and bring something to clean up “Fido’s business.” • Another ‘Public” recitation of the rosary, Saturday, October 13, 12 Noon to remember the promises at Fatima! • Trunk or Treat is October 28 at 3:00 p.m. • We sign up for A Green Knight to Remember, for Friday, November 2, 6:30 p.m. at La-Vera Party Center. ALL proceeds go toward the operations of our award-winning school. Fundraising is a part of any Catholic school, helping to maintain a reasonable tuition.

Dreams for the Future: Leadership Day identified many hopes for the future of our parish. As we review the last Pastoral Plan and start to think of a new one, here are some items that have surfaced already for Pastoral Plan 2020: • To maintain and increase school enrollment and create a strong marketing plan • Increase and engage young adults and encourage their involvement

• Determine feasible use and integration of more technology in the liturgies • Increase the involvement of school parents in the parish, especially by attending Mass • Make the Family Life Center (& church) wireless • Challenges for our ministries to insure ongoing continuity, growth and increase our participation as a goal and get others engaged to make them have a home with us • Insure and engage the ongoing financial security of the parish (especially the school) with increased tithing and fundraising • “Friends invite friends” vs. “CAVE” dwellers (CCCConsistently AAA gainst VVVirtually EEEverything); We love the place – bring others to join us! • Continue to expand the youth group and programs; bring the (Saint Michaels Navajo Reservation) Arizona students here to experience our parish, because we have gone twice to complete service projects at their school • Have more youth involved in the weekend liturgies • Increase the diversity and network with the people in our community to engage our community • Spread our positive energies outside of our parish and into the community: Share our energy with others! • Continue to rejuvenate and grow – when we think outward and care for the bigger world and people around us, we grow! • Continue social outreach that people can get involved in the work of our Social Action Commission • Increase Mass attendance; people are doing everything but going to Mass so let us foster encouragement to come to Mass and make that the #1 priority: Mass is the source and summit of who we are. • Everyone works hard, and we have a lot of ministries and are doing things well. We are good with so many things and we want to make sure it keeps going! • We want to make sure we intentionally invite high school students to be part of our ministries and create sustainability • School is a central part of our parish life and our future leaders. Keep it strong • Enhance the gifts and talents of those who are already involved; to continue to light a fire within and bring out the talents and gifts • Each person should become involved in the life of Julian Eymard and know this great saint of our parish and the spirituality of this holy man that will help them in their personal life by knowing his writings and prayers • To enact evangelization principles into the new plan

Let’s continue to pray for each other and the joy of serving in our parish’s life! In Christ our ,

Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS, Class of 1979 (40 th Reunion Saturday, May 18)

MANNA’S MINISTRY’S 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Ten years ago today, Sept. 30, we wanted to start a ministry that would be helping parishioners in need here at St. Paschal’s. Because of your overwhelming support we were able to accomplish this. Reflecting back on the past 4 years, because it is difficult to include all 10 years, you have paid 519 utility, mortgage, rent bills and more. We also delivered 100 meals to parishioners when we were made aware of someone returning home after a hospital stay. In the past 10 years every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter you helped so many families with gift cards to make their holidays brighter. Throughout the years we have distributed numerous food gift cards to our needy parishioners so no one would go hungry. On behalf of those you have helped THANK YOU for your kindness and concern! What a great parish we have! Remember, Manna is here if you need us!
