The academic year 2018-19 started with a big bang as the University rolled out seven new Vivechana- The Counselling Space 27 programmes in arts and sciences which were a hit among applicants from different parts of the country. The flurry of events this year right from day one added to the grandeur of the campus and its unique culture, be it the Commencement Day or the Musical Concert for the freshers or the Naval Band Performance. Adding feather to our cap was the Fifth Convocation of the University which was broadcast live in more than one hundred and fifty countries on Youtube.

An ever-increasing number of aspiring learners from the different corners of the country and also the world has added to the vibrancy of the community life one can experience here in the campus. With our horizons having expanded, this issue of SSU Insight offers its readers yet another opportunity to explore and experience the rich diversity our unique campus has to offer.

10 | INSIGHT Spot Light Ms. Rajita Kulkarni, President, Sri Sri University met Dr. Saule Maciukaote Zviniene, Advisor (Education, Science & Culture) to the President of Lithuania and discussed about collaborations between Sri Sri University and universities in Lithuania on emerging areas of interest like Agriculture, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Ms. Rajita Kulkarni, President, Sri Sri University conducted her first Advanced Meditation Program at the University. Participants experienced true happiness with fun-filled sessions of Yoga and deep guided meditation for a perfect spiritual vacation for mind, body and spirit- a journey from Head to Heart.

Art of Living Apex Body & Committee members of all 14 districts of Kerala visited Sri Sri University for their annual convention. They were highly impressed with the academic and residential facilities, food and hospitality here.

12 | INSIGHT 11th September 2018: Utsha Foundation for Contemporary Art, Bhubaneshwar conducted an interactive session cum one- day workshop on BATs- Navigation Offline with BVA students in SSU campus. This project envisages a 1.3 km walk in the Old Town district with art installation and works from prominent artists along the way.

Sanskrit Week

25th Aug - 05th Sept 2018: Sanskrit Week was celebrated in the Campus in which various activities like Shloka-paatha, Sanskrit song recitation, storytelling in Sanskrit, speech in Sanskrit etc were conducted by the students and faculty members of the department of Sanskrit in Sanskrit language. In the inaugural function on 25th August 2018, the chief guest Ms. Rupali Naik, Administrator, Sri Sri Gurukul encouraged the students to pursue their passion for Sanskrit. Dr. Ajit Kumar, faculty, Computer Science, in his special talk, encouraged the students to take Computer science and Sanskrit together as their research area. All the students, faculty and staff of SSU and Sri Sri Gurukul also joined the ceremony. This one week celebration ended with the closing ceremony on 5th September 2018, where students enthusiastically presented their best performances of the week before the chief guest of the ceremony, Capt. Chandrashekhar Panda, Director, Students Affairs, SSU. In his encouraging speech, Capt. Panda guided and inspired the students to learn and spread the knowledge hidden in this Devabhaashaa.

INSIGHT | 17 05th-17th Sept 2018: The Spoken Sanskrit Workshop was organized in Sri Sri University from, in which more than 100 students, faculty members and staff of the University as well as Sri Sri Gurukul, learned to speak fluent Sanskrit from an eminent scholar, Jayaprakaasha Shaastree ji. For 10 days, students practised learning easy Sanskrit usages and in the end, participated in various competitions like Gita-path, Sanskrit song and speech in Sanskrit language. Certificates were given away to all the winners and the participants of the competition at the end. The workshop was inaugurated on 5th September 2018 by the chief guest, Cmde Ghanashyam Ojha, Executive registrar, SSU and Capt. C. Panda, DSA, SSU. The honorable guests congratulated the students for their interest in this divine language and wished them good luck for their successful journey of the course. Dr. Prativa Manjari Rath, Faculty, Sanskrit department, talked to the students in beautiful and comprehensive Sanskrit about the importance of this divine language. Dr. Shilpi Mishra, HoD, Sanskrit department, gave an overview of the workshop and its benefits. Mr. Jayaprakaasha Shaastree ji, in his introductory talk, explained the wonderful connection of Sanskrit language with our body and mind.

The valedictory session was conducted on 17th September 2018, in which the guest of honour Shri Pratap Chandra Shadangi, Head, Amrita Vaani Seva Pratishthaana, encouraged the participants for using Sanskrit language in their day-to-day life. On the occasion, students presented various programs like dance, songs, shloka recitation, talks, speeches etc. in Sanskrit language. A small drama on ‘Svachchata Abhiyana’ was also presented by the participants in Sanskrit. 18 | INSIGHT Students’ Achievements –

28th September 2018 Ms. Suvalaxmi Padhy, MA Sanskrit (Vyakarana) student was declared Sri Sri University Topper for the academic year 2018-19, in the Convocation ceremony. Sri Sri Ravishankar ji blessed her and awarded her degree certificate and medal.

October 2018 Dr. Gayatri Rath’s article ‘Bhakti: A Bhagawat way of internal sharing with God’ was published in Felicitation volume of Radhamadhavasaurabham.

31.08.2018 Prof. Prativa Manjari Rath delivered an Extension Lecture as Resource Person in the UGC Sponsored Refresher Course on the topic ‘Gender Currents of the 21st Century: A Reflection on Theoretical Concerns, Agenda and Actions’ organized by the Dept. of Women’s Studies of , Bhubaneswar in collaboration with the HRD Center of Utkal University. The Topic of the Lecture was ‘Gender Issues: Instances from The Vedic Tradition of India’.

30th September 2018, Prof. Prativa Manjari Rath delivered an Extension Lecture in the UGC Sponsored Refresher Course on the topic ‘Research Methodology for Research in the field of Literature’ organized by the HRD Center of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar on the general Theme of ‘Research Methodology’.

23rd September 2018 Prof. Prativa Manjari Rath delivered an Extension Lecture on ‘Female Seers of Rgveda’ at Sivananda Yogasrama, Puri, which was organized by the Dept. of Veda of Sri Jagannatha Sanskrit Visvavidyalaya , Puri and sponsored by Maharsi Sandipani Rastriya veda Vidya Pratisthan, Ujjain.

17th September 2018: Workshop on Change the Myth ‘Founders are from Mars, Investors from Venus’ (How to raise Money for your Start-up) was conducted at Sri Sri University. The workshop was scheduled in association with Start-up Odisha. The event witnessed participation of seventy plus budding and aspiring entrepreneurs from various parts of Odisha. Mr. Narendra Lamba, Director Operations, Sri Sri University highlighted the key parameters desired by investors for funding support. Prof. (Dr.) P Srinivas Subbarao, Dean, FCMS, Sri Sri University and CEO of SSU Innovation Pvt. Ltd., the Incubation centre of Sri Sri University, guided the Start-up founders how to develop their business plan with specific focus to key financial ratios. Among the resource persons, CA Harshdeep Gumber, Founder of Acculegal Services Private Limited, Mr. Surojit Roy, Head of Operations, Ambuja Neotia Incubation Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Alok R Ranarahu, AGM, RBI and Mr. J Rout, Chief Manager, Andhra Bank shared their insights on profit and loss, cash flows, balance sheets and key performance indicators from bankers’ point of view. The inaugural session was concluded with the vote of thanks by the workshop coordinator Prof. Barada Panigrahy.
