The 62nd annual Republic Bank Pegasus Parade, the Festival’s oldest and founding event, is set to step off on Thursday, May 4. Linkin’ Bridge, finalist on season 11 of America’s Got Talent, will serve as Honorary Grand Marshals of the 2017 parade, as well as open the event with a live performance on Broadway. “Louisville on the Move” is the twofold theme of this year’s Pegasus Parade with both a health focus and a nod to how the city continues to grow and progress. It will include 13 floats, 11 equestrian units, 5 inflatables, 11 marching bands and 16 specialty units. Spectators can expect to get up and move this year with the Parade units as they go down the route. The 2017 Republic Bank Pegasus Parade begins at 5 PM at Broadway and Campbell and marches west for approximately 120 minutes, ending on 9th Street. The annual spectacle will be broadcast live on WAVE 3 NEWS. Highlights of the parade over the years have included the appearance of a Duke and a General. The event is the oldest continuously charitable arm. A portion of proceeds from the ball benefits the Foundation. held high school all-star game in the country. This year’s roster included University of Louisville signees Malik Williams, Darius Perry, Lance Thomas and Jordan Nwora; UK signee Shai Gilgeous-Alexander; and IU signees Aljami Durham and Justin Smith. The KDF Foundation Student Art Contest remainder of the roster was ranked in the Top 50 nationally by recruiting services Rivals.com, Scout.com and 247sports.com. The Basketball Classic also featured the finals of the Slam Dunk competition and Three-Point Presented by The Fillies, Inc. Shooting Contest.

Dozens of local students from grades K-12 participated in the 41st annual Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation Student Art Contest Presented by the Fillies Inc. Their artwork showcased their favorite Kentucky Derby Festival events. The students used watercolor, acrylics, inks, crayon, colored pencils, oil pastels, felt markers and any combination of these materials. In March, a panel of local artists selected over 30 winners from the dozens of submissions from area private, parochial and public school students. First place winners received a 2017 framed Festival Poster and will appear on the “Festival Winners” float in the 2017 Republic Bank Pegasus Parade on Thursday, May 4.
