  • First District Garden Line
First District Federated Garden Clubs of NYS, Inc. June 2016 Volume 18 Issue 2 The Garden Line Carol Berardi, District Director Robert Bauer, Editor Lucille Bauer, Production Asst. Directors Message By Carol Berardi Dear Members, Spring is finally here and everyone is tending to their gardens planting lovely flowers. The trees are blooming, especially the beautiful dogwoods. If you look around, you can see beauty everywhere. You may wish to visit an Arboretum, a public outdoor museum where specimen trees and shrubs are grown for exhibition and study. Again, I will reiterate that we should all focus on increasing membership into the clubs. Membership throughout the state has dropped down from 10,000 members to 7,800. Therefore, I encourage you to invite your friends or family to join. We will need to be more visible to the public. Please place flyers of your clubs at your local library or bank. Please try to attend public functions at churches and specifically, let’s attend Conservation Day at the Zoo on Saturday, June 18 from 12 noon to 3 pm. All clubs should participate. Bonnie Rogers is chairing this event again this year for District. Let Bonnie know if you want to help that day. Members have an opportunity for learning design, horticulture, landscape design, as well as participate in Flower Shows. Garden club members enjoy lasting friendships. There are school programs that members can attend to be more informed about gardening. District Flower Show School, Course IV, will be held in Rochester, New York June 8 - 10. Go to fgcnys.com website for more information on classes.
