Press Release Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2014 Bloomberg New Contemporaries has been an integral part of Liverpool Biennial since 1999, and is proud to announce its participation in the Liverpool Biennial 2014. Under the new directorship of Kirsty Ogg, this year marks Bloomberg New Contemporaries’ 65th anniversary. As the leading UK organisation for supporting emergent art practice from British art schools, New Contemporaries has consistently provided a critical platform for final year undergraduates, postgraduates and artists one year out of postgraduate study, primarily by means of an annual touring exhibition. Emphasising the critical support and exposure Bloomberg New Contemporaries offers, this year’s selection panel of leading practitioners includes previous New Contemporaries participant and Turner Prize nominee Marvin Gaye Chetwynd who is joined by Turner Prize nominees Enrico David and Goshka Macuga. Following two rigorous selection rounds in March 2014 and in April 2014, participants will be announced in May 2014. As part of Liverpool Biennial 2014, the resulting national touring exhibition opens at the World Museum, National Museums Liverpool, 20 September 2014, offering a compelling picture of contemporary practice. Kirsty Ogg, Director says ‘As the UK’s foremost annual arts initiative, New Contemporaries has consistently provided a critical platform for early stage artists, playing a central role in providing many with their first high profile show, and a launch pad for their careers. This year we are delighted to work with Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Enrico David and Goshka Macuga, all of whom have shaped the cultural landscape since graduating from UK art schools.’ As a National portfolio organisation, New Contemporaries is a registered charity supported using public funding by Arts Council England. -Ends- Notes for Editors Marvin Gaye Chetwynd was born in London and lives and works in Glasgow.
