Money raised by National Lottery players will enable Hall Place and Gardens to develop ways to maximise the business opportunities , as well as vital investment into the Grade 1 listed Tudor house and gardens. Cllr Peter Craske, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Environment and Leisure said; “This is great news. This funding will help us to continue to engage with the fascinating history of the house, as well as think about new developments to expand the use of the house and garden. Hall Place is going through such an exciting period of change. Since the London Borough of Bexley took over the management of the site in April 2017, the house has gained a new lease of life with a packed schedule of new events and activities. It is also a key part of the borough’s wider cultural agenda. Hall Place, together with other local gems such as Danson House, Lesnes Abbey, Crossness and the Carnegie Building, is central to our recent bid to become the first London Borough of Culture.” The Dino Live exhibition held recently in the Great Hall attracted more than 12,500 visitors during its run, many of whom were coming to Hall Place for the first time. This spring and summer will see another exciting exhibition in the form of ‘Brick City’.     London Borough of Bexley News Release For Immediate Release 10 November 2015 / PR 6245 DANSON HOUSE SET TO RETURN TO COUNCIL CONTROL Danson House is set for a change of management next year, with the London Borough of Bexley committed to ensuring that the much-loved historic building remains open to the public. The future use of the Georgian mansion is to be discussed at the next meeting of the Council’s Cabinet on 17 November. It follows lengthy discussions over many months between the Council and the Bexley Heritage Trust, who have managed the Georgian mansion on the Council’s behalf since 2004. As a result of the severe financial pressures it faces, the Council decided to withdraw its grant to the Trust over the next three years. This led the Trust to review their commitments, resulting in their decision to withdraw from the management of Danson House. The Council is in discussion with Kent County Council to continue the use of the building for weddings by using it as the new location for the Borough’s Register Office. This service is run for Bexley by Kent County Council and it is proposed that this will relocate to Danson House from the Borough’s current Register Office at Sidcup Manor House. The future use of Sidcup Manor House will be reviewed and a new Conservation Management Plan developed, which will help inform final proposals for the property. “We are saddened that BHT is unable to continue to manage Danson House but understand the reason for their decision,” said Cabinet Member Cllr Peter Craske.

The Register Office at Manor House, Sidcup will close to the public on 12 July and will re-open at Danson House on Wednesday 14 July. Appointments and registrations on 12 and 13 July will be held at the Central Library, Townley Road in Bexleyheath to ensure continuity of the Registration Service. From 14 July onwards registrations of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships as well as wedding, civil partnership and citizenship ceremonies, will take place at Danson House. The Register Office will be open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. All weddings and ceremonies already booked at Manor House until 19 September 2016 will still be carried out at Manor House. From Monday 18 July onwards an additional venue for the registration of deaths will be available on the 1st floor of the Central Library in Bexleyheath every Monday and Wednesday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. This will provide a very convenient location for residents to access the service in the centre of the Borough and close to all types of public transport.
