Despite watching her mother struggle to raise four girls, Lt. Gov. Hampton knew she was blessed to live in a nation where people could rise from poverty. After earning an Industrial Engineering degree in 1985, Lt. Gov. Hampton joined the U.S. Air Force as a computer systems officer, writing computer code and testing software. Her seven years of military service included a tour of duty in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. Following her military service, Lt. Gov. Hampton began a 19-year career in the corrugated packaging industry. She started as a crew supervisor on the production floor and was soon promoted to other positions, rising to plant manager. In 2003, Lt. Gov. Hampton moved to Bowling Green, where she continued her career in the corrugated packaging industry. At that time, Lt. Gov. Hampton knew Kentucky was the place where she wanted to spend her life and help improve the lives of others. In 2014, Lt. Gov. Hampton decided to enter the political arena, running for the Kentucky State House. In 2015, she was approached by Gov. Matt Bevin to be his running mate. They were elected in November 2015. Lt. Gov. Hampton is married to retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Dr. Doyle Isaak.     GOVERNORS The Gubernatorial Elections of 2015: Hard-Fought Races for the Open Seats By Jennifer M. Jensen and Thad Beyle Only three governors were elected in 2015. Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi are the only states that hold their gubernatorial elections during the year prior to the presidential election. This means that these three states can be early indicators of any voter unrest that might unleash itself more broadly in the next year’s congressional and presidential elections, and we saw some of this in the two races where candidates were vying for open seats. Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) was elected to a second term, running in a state that strongly favored his political party. Both Kentucky and Louisiana have elected Democrats and Republicans to the governorship in recent years, and each race was seen as up for grabs by many political pundits. In the end, each election resulted in the governorship turning over to the other political party. Mary Barr Clay married John Francis “Frank” Herrick of Cleveland, Ohio in 1839. They lived in Cleveland and had three sons. In 1872, Mary Barr Clay divorced Herrick, moved back to Kentucky, and took back her name – changing the names of her two youngest children to Clay as well. In 1878, Clay’s mother and father also divorced, after a tenuous marriage that included affairs and an illegitimate son on her father’s part.

(WBKO) -- The Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism has launched a webpage to enhance visitor experience for 2017’s solar eclipse, dubbed "The Great American Eclipse", which will best be seen in western Kentucky. The page provides information like links to tourism o?ces, information on lodging, restaurants, and events in communities that feature prominently in the total eclipse path. "With thousands of visitors expected from all over the world, we wanted to create a clearinghouse of traveler information not only for the area most directly impacted, but also for the rest of the state," said Kristen Branscum, Commissioner of the Department of Travel and Tourism. "This webpage creates an opportunity to not only promote the main event, but also gives visitors an opportunity to learn about all the wonderful places to see in Kentucky”. Western Kentucky areas will have the longest eclipse view on August 21, 2017, while others will see a partial eclipse. NASA says Hopkinsville will have the longest viewing time of two minutes and 40 seconds. The next total eclipse won’t occur over the continental U.S. until 2024. Kentucky communities in the path of the eclipse include: Hopkinsville, Paducah, Eddyville, Princeton, Madisonville, Crofton, Kelly, Russellville, Bowling Green, Marion, Cadiz, Dawson Springs, Oak Grove, Scottsville, Kentucky Lake, Grand Rivers, and Franklin.
