Convergencias mediáticas y nuevas narrativas Antonio López Hidalgo Francisco Javier Moreno Gálvez Es indudable que el mundo del periodismo está cambiando. De hecho, podríamos decir que nunca ha dejado de cambiar, o dándole la vuelta al argumento, que siempre ha estado en crisis. Desde el surgimiento de los primeros periódicos impresos, pasando por la prensa liberal de la que malvivían bohemios escritores y poetas revolucionarios, hasta el nuevo periodista todo-terreno producto de la convergencia multimedia y el avance tecnológico, son muchos los periodos por los que ha atravesado la profesión periodística, la (cada vez más) empresa informativa y las diferentes formas de narrar a ellas asociadas. No obstante, la crisis actual del periodismo tiene también sus especificidades. El campo periodístico está atra- vesado hoy en día por una serie de problemáticas como son la creciente precariedad laboral en la profesión, la generalizada pérdida de calidad de los contenidos informativos o los nuevos retos legislativos en un momento de creciente tensión entre mercado y Estado en el Cono Sur. Y es precisamente bajo el impacto de lo digital que se ha configurado un escenario incierto para los periodistas, marcado por una creciente tendencia global, no exenta de tensiones y contradicciones, a la desregulación, la privatización y la liberalización de los servicios públicos en general y de los de comunicación en particular. No obstante, también asistimos al surgimiento de nuevas y originales formas de prácticas periodísticas. En un escenario en el que, parafraseando al filósofo y periodista italiano Antonio Gramsci, el anterior modelo no termina de morir y el nuevo no acaba de nacer, asistimos al surgimiento de nuevas prácticas que, como el periodismo narrativo, prefiguran lo que puede ser la futura reconfiguración del campo informativo. La intención del I Congreso Internacional de Periodismo “Convergencias mediáticas y nueva narrativa lati- noamericana”, impulsado por el Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para América Latina (CIESPAL), fue precisamente en este momento de crisis y transformación atender a dichas mutaciones teniendo en cuenta la especificidad latinoamericana y su capacidad para, como ya de hecho hizo en épocas anteriores, apuntar originales formas de hacer periodismo. El llamamiento dio lugar a un espacio que sirvió para la puesta al día de la agenda académica y profesional, para el intercambio de saberes, para la reflexión compartida entre profesores, estudiantes, investigadores y profesionales del ámbito de la comunicación, es- pacio que el presente volumen pretende cristalizar, al menos parcialmente, para que pueda seguir circulando y enriqueciéndose el conocimiento generado durante tres días de intenso trabajo. La alta participación en el congreso obligó a ordenar temáticamente por mesas las aportaciones recibidas. Así, se constituyeron hasta siete grupos de trabajo que contemplaban diferentes formas de aproximarse a la problemática central acerca de los retos del periodismo frente a las convergencias mediáticas y el auge de la nueva narrativa latinoamericana, entendida esta como la forma original de periodismo narrativo que se desa- rrolla actualmente en Latinoamérica y que ya extiende su influencia a nivel internacional. De esta manera, se abordó en primer lugar el papel de la subjetividad y la conciencia social en el periodismo narrativo en América Latina, y como estas variables origionales, no siempre presentes en el texto informativo, han abierto el camino a nuevos formatos y canales en los que el periodismo no era un invitado frecuente, como los blogs de autor o el mundo de la literatura. Una segunda mesa se ocupó de la reflexión sobre la revolución de géneros y estilos que atraviesa el periodismo narrativo, en el que la pasión, la sorpresa o el compromiso ya no son rasgos proscritos sino diferenciales de una nueva forma de contar los acontecimientos. En tercer lugar, la práctica del periodismo narrativo también fue objeto de análisis, destacando la recurrencia I Congreso Internacional de Periodismo 7 a la inmersión como método de investigación privilegiado para el acceso a la noticia, con las prácticas del periodismo encubierto o el periodismo gonzo como ejemplos más representativos. De manera complementa- ria, se trataron también los riesgos y límites ético-legales de la inmersión periodística y el uso de tecnologías de registro como las cámaras fotográficas, de video o las grabadoras. Una quinta mesa estuvo dedicada a las narrativas alternativas a los modelos hegemónicos en el ámbito periodístico, que apuntan nuevos territorios e identidades que configuran significaciones alternativas. El periodismo transmediático, con lo que tiene de convergencia tecnológica e hibridación de géneros, fue objeto de una sexta mesa en la que las aportaciones se centraron en desentrañar la diversidad de formas de expresión y canales que caracterizan el periodismo narrativo. Finalmente, la séptima mesa estuvo dedicada a los retos de la formación y de la investigación en el contexto del periodismo narrativo y transmediático, articulando un espacio de intersecciones entre la aporta- ción académica y la práctica periodística sobre las dimensiones éticas, epistemológicas

Guided by the concept of communitas, we examined the manner in which fans attempted to exercise their agency in the construction of the weekend against the structure imposed by the promoters. To do this, we developed a creative analytic practice we call gonzo autoethnography, which draws inspiration from Hunter S. Thompson’s gonzo journalism and sheds any claim to objectivity to blend social critique and satire to tell the story of the phenomenon of interest. To do this, we rely on a totem from the music scene to embody the connections, concerns, and frustrations of the devoted fanbase. As such, this particular case offers leisure scholars an opportunity to explore the limitations of fans’ agency in affecting participation in meaningful leisure activities through a nontraditional lens.     Talking like a Shōnen Hero: Masculinity in Post-Bubble Era Japan through the Lens of Boku and Ore Hannah E. Dahlberg-Dodd The Ohio State University Abstract Comics (manga) and their animated counterparts (anime) are ubiquitous in Japanese popular culture, but rarely is the language used within them the subject of linguistic inquiry. This study aims to address part of this gap by analyzing nearly 40 years’ worth of shōnen anime, which is targeted predominately at adolescent boys. In the early- and mid-20th century, male protagonists saw a shift in first-person pronoun usage. Pre-war, protagonists used boku, but beginning with the post-war Economic Miracle, shōnen protagonists used ore, a change that reflected a shift in hegemonic masculinity to the salaryman model. This study illustrates that a similar change can be seen in the late-20th century. With the economic downturn, salaryman masculinity began to be questioned, though did not completely lose its hegemonic status. This is reflected in shōnen works as a reintroduction of boku as a first- person pronoun option for protagonists beginning in the late 90s.     Ludic Dysnarrativa: How Can Fictional Inconsistency In Games Be Reduced? by Rory Keir Summerley A Thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of the Arts London In Collaboration with Falmouth University December 2017 Abstract The experience of fictional inconsistencies in games is surprisingly common. The goal was to determine if solutions exist for this problem and if there are inherent limitations to games as a medium that make storytelling uncommonly difficult. Termed ‘ludic dysnarrativa’, this phenomenon can cause a loss of immersion in the fictional world of a game and lead to greater difficulty in intuitively understanding a game’s rules. Through close textual analysis of The Stanley Parable and other games, common trends are identified that lead a player to experience dysnarrativa. Contemporary cognitive theory is examined alongside how other media deal with fictional inconsistency to develop a model of how information (fictional and otherwise) is structured in media generally. After determining that gaps in information are largely the cause of a player feeling dysnarrativa, it is proposed that a game must encourage imaginative acts from the player to prevent these gaps being perceived. Thus a property of games, termed ‘imaginability’, was determined desirable for fictionally consistent game worlds. Many specific case studies are cited to refine a list of principles that serve as guidelines for achieving imaginability. To further refine these models and principles, multiplayer games such as Dungeons and Dragons were analysed specifically for how multiple players navigate fictional inconsistencies within them. While they operate very differently to most single-player games in terms of their fiction, multiplayer games still provide useful clarifications and principles for reducing fictional inconsistencies in all games.

SEIFERT AND RICHARD GONZALEZ, PHD University of Michigan Ann Arbor, MI ABSTRACT This paper presents an analysis of engineering students’ use of Design Heuristics as part of a team project in an undergraduate engineering design course. Design Heuristics are an empirically derived set of cognitive “rules of thumb” for use in concept generation. We investigated heuristic use in the initial concept generation phase, whether heuristic-inspired concepts were carried through to later design process stages, and how concept synthesis within each team’s design process related to heuristic use. The results reveal widespread use of Design Heuristics among the concepts gener - ated by individuals and selected by teams for further development, and a prevalence of concept synthesis within approximately half of the observed teams’ design processes.
