The music is an homage to the musicians who built the foundation for a generation of love, peace and exceptional music! Our show covers the acts who played the Woodstock Festival with an occasional treat thrown in from Contact Bill Baker 612-730-7520 or [email protected] Website: WWW.BUTCHRBAKER.COM https://www.facebook.com/pages/Butch-r-Baker-The-Candlestyx/181286490189 that magical era. The CandleStyx continue to please SRO crowds at the Driftwood. Wendy Lee and Butch r Baker are drawing fans to see and hear their onstage magic. Wendy Lee channels the best Janice Joplin and Grace Slick. Butch tears up the Rock Standards and breaks new ground with his performance. Together they charm audiences and make new fans each outing! The Band was formed in 2009 for the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock festival. Each year an incarnation has brought fresh thought and life to the music of a generation. In 2011 Butch teamed with Chuck Haelig to begin writing songs together. Chuck is an amazing songster. He is the Richards to Butch’s Jagger… the McCartney to his Lennon. Tim Siefkes was introduced to the Band by Mick La Briola and soon with Texas Bill Noturno the original music was showcased under the name New Riders of the Purple Dead (NRPD) Today, Tom Caspers on Drums along with Chuck and Kevin Goolden (the new kid) form the rhythm section. This completes the latest incarnation and it is blessed with bountiful camaraderie. The showmanship of the CandleStyx is palpable! • Preface Prelude
PreludePreface Freedom! Dr. Edward Gabriele Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director, Journal of Health and Human Experience President and Chief Executive Officer, The Semper Vi Foundation Tel: (301) 792-7823 Email: [email protected] It was a hot and humid August weekend. Typical for the concrete, brick and asphalt slathered areas of the Italian Market in South Philly. I was home from my job that summer – a short break from the administration office of a hospital emergency room where the temperatures in human dialogue were just as humid and sweat-breaking. It was 1969. I was getting ready to head into my senior year of high school. As my classmates and friends at that time would tell you, I was not exactly a typical teenager of my era. I had no time for hippies and “liberal” postures. I was a pretty narrow-minded young guy. Sure, I liked the dance music of my times; but I had no affinity with the beaded, tie-dyed, head-scarfed hippies of the era. At least I marketed myself that way. It felt safe. There I was. On this hot weekend at the end of a day now watching a special report on my parents’ television. Something was going on somewhere in New York State. Never heard of the place. Some farm or something called “Woodstock.” A music convention or something seemed to be going on. Having studied music myself and being a musician and vocalist since I was four years of age, the report caught my attention. In fact, it also made it into newspapers and the radio.

Furthermore, the entire subject of the effects of rock on a listening audience varies considerably from listener to listener. The teen-ager just likes, the sound of the music and the feelings that the music brings out in him, while the adult still thinks of rock as a lot of noise no matter how many magazine articles they read or TV programs they see.

RED HOUSE RECORDS Publicity Contact: Ellen Stanley • [email protected] • (651) 644-4161 HOT TUNA Steady As She Goes RHR-CD-241 • Release Date: April 5, 2011 RHR-LP-241 • Release Date: May, 2011 Iconic roots rockers return with their first new studio album in 20 years! Red House Records is pleased to announce the April 5, 2011 release of Steady As She Goes, the first new album in twenty years from the legendary Hot Tuna. Featuring Rock & Roll Hall of Famers and Jefferson Airplane founding members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, the band celebrates over four decades of playing together. Now, with the release of their Red House debut, they prove that they remain one of the most innovative bands in American music. Why did it take so long for Hot Tuna to record a new album? “Well, it just worked out that way,” Kaukonen says. “Hot Tuna never quit playing. The moment just wasn’t right before; now it is, and we have a great project to show for it.” Returning to upstate New York decades after Kaukonen and Casady first played Woodstock, they went into Levon Helm’s studio over the winter to record twelve new tracks with mandolin player Barry Mitterhoff and drummer Skoota Warner (Cyndi Lauper, Matisyahu, Santana). Working with famed producer Larry Campbell (who Kaukonen worked with on his last solo album River of Time) the band plugged in for the electric Hot Tuna album that fans have been waiting for. Taking no prisoners, the band tears into it, kicking off with the rocking Americana number “Angel of Darkness” (co- written by Kaukonen and Campbell).

  • Taken by an Unknown 17-Year-Old Photography Student – Published Posthumously for the First Time in a New Limited Edition Publication, Woodstock Experience
UNSEEN ARCHIVE OF WOODSTOCK IMAGES UNEARTHED Taken by an unknown 17-year-old photography student – published posthumously for the first time in a new limited edition publication, Woodstock Experience. London August 2009: A forgotten archive of photographs, taken at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair 40 years ago has been unearthed by UK-based limited edition publishers Genesis Publications. Taken by 17-year-old high school student Dan Garson, the archive has spent the last four decades in a basement, stored in a cardboard box. As well as images of the mud, rain, trampled fences, drugs, skinny dippers and eccentric festival goers that have made Woodstock so iconic, the archive features previously unseen shots of Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Ravi Shankar, Arlo Guthrie and The Band in performance. Rona Elliot, the former entertainment correspondent for NBC!s Today Show, worked at Woodstock as a community relations officer and helped track down Dan Garson!s archive and researched his story. RONA ELLIOT: Dan!s remarkable photographs reveal an exceptional talent, fully formed at 17 years of age. His pictures provide a cohesive narrative of his own Woodstock experience. They demonstrate that he understood, perfectly, both where he was at that moment in time, and the culturally shifting spectacle he was recording. While Dan worked in the photo pit, shooting the musicians onstage, he separated himself from the other photographers. Rather than huddle together with the group, Dan stationed himself adjacent to the film crew. As a result, his images are both unfamiliar and fresh to the eye nearly 40 years after they were taken.

  • Backtrack Blues Band "One Sheet"
On its fifth CD, “Way Back Home,” the first class band has recorded one of its strongest traditional blues records to date. Led by the double barrel attack of harmonica ace and lead vocalist, Sonny Charles, and the biting Texas blues guitar of Kid Royal, the Backtrack Blues Band is now poised to carry its musical message to a larger audience. —Art Tipaldi, Editor, Blues Music Magazine, 2016 Backtrack isn’t afraid to play dirty and lowdown…. This blues is definitely worth searching for! —Alex Henderson, CD Universe On its new release, “Way Back Home,” the Backtrack Blues Band has delivered an exciting harp and guitar-infused album that really hits the mark! The group has been one of Florida’s leading original blues acts for decades, and those years of performing have paid big dividends on this record. The solid grooves, stellar guitar, electrifying harmonica, and vocals make this CD one of the best blues releases of 2016. Reminiscent of the sounds of Paul Butterfield and the early Fabulous Thunderbirds, the songs on this record are true electric blues with lots of soul and energy. Backtrack has won three consecutive Tampa Bay Music Awards for “Best Blues Band” and has performed at festivals and concerts around the world with blues music legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Gregg Allman, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter, and others. “Way Back Home” marks the band’s fifth album, and the critics have proclaimed it the band’s best work. GUITAR MIKEY TIMELINE 1969 At the age of 5 receives a stack of 45 rpm records. By the age of 6 he finds himself recording himself singing along the records on his dad’s cassette recorder. Songs included “Kansas City” by Trini Lopez. 1976 First Television Appearances At Age 11 Mike McMillan AKA Guitar Mikey at age 11 starts The Young Canadian Blues Band. He makes several appearances with the 3 member band on a local cable show performing some 50's rock'n'roll classics as well as Johnny Winter's "Mean Town Blues". At age 11 Mike attends a Muddy Waters concert by himself. His father returns at the end of the show to pick him up. He is nowhere to be found. Eventually as Mike's dad continues to circle the auditorium he finds Mike exiting the stage door where he had been hanging out with the man himself, Muddy Waters. First Working Band Mike had just turned 12 when he joined his first working band "Phoenix". They would play local high school dances. He would continue performing as a guitar player playing in rock bands while all the time really wanting to play blues. 1980 Steel City Blues Band Mike realized that if he was going to play blues, he would have to front a band as the singer. So he began to sing blues imitating his childhood idol Johnny Winter. The familiar growling style would work for the time being. However Mike's singing would eventually grow into something all his own. He started The Steel City Blues Band.
