The list of stadium records at Cobb Track and Angell Field is second to none. In addition, Cobb Track and Angell Field was the site of the 2002 and 2003 U.S. National and Junior National Championships, that featured track and field stars Marion Jones, Maurice Greene, Gail Devers, Allen Johnson and Adam Nelson. At the 2004 Cardinal Track and Field Invitational, 15 Olympic A-standards were achieved, including a track record by the great Sonia O’Sullivan of Ireland. Stanford’s Cobb Track and Angell Field has become the epicen- ter of track and field in the United States. Upon its renewed inception in 1996, former Director of Track and Field Vin Lananna stated, “The newly renovated Cobb Track and Angell Field is a wonderful homecoming for Stanford Track and Field. This restored facility makes it possible for Stanford to host top quality, national and international meets and provides a more intimate setting for the fans and a more visible location within the Stanford community. It is a tremendous step forward for our program, Stanford Athletics and the track and field world as a whole.” Cobb Track and Angell Field is the home of Stanford Track and Field. Through the dedicated efforts of many people, including Chuck Cobb, Otis Chandler and Pitch Johnson, Stanford’s dream for a state-of-the-art track and field facility has become a reality.

    Jan. 26, 2014 Golden West Invitational is returning to Sacramento Iconic event to be held in conjunction with USA Championships The nation’s top high school athletes will be sharing the stage with Olympians and world record holders when the Golden West Invitational returns to Sacramento in June. And history tells us that the youngsters will be setting records and winning Olympic medals oF their own in a Few short years. After a one-year stopover in Berkeley, the Golden West Invitational is coming home to Sacramento. The 55th annual track and field competition will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium. The GWI will be held alongside the 2014 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which are scheduled For June 26-29 at Hornet Stadium. Many oF the stars expected to compete in this year’s USA Championships 1 – Allyson Felix, Galen Rupp, Ashton Eaton, Christian Taylor, Bershawn Jackson and Bianca Knight, among others – are GWI alumni. “The opportunity to hold the Golden West Invitational in conjunction with the USA Championships was too good to pass up,” said GWI meet director John Mansoor, who is also serving as co-director of the USA Championships. “The high school athletes will compete in Front oF thousands oF Fans and have a chance to be seen by the top proFessional coaches and athletes in the country at the same time.
