UNI coach Chris Bucknam received MVC Coach of the Year honors while the Panthers had three runners earn all-conference honors. Senior Marty Greene finished second to three-time champ Mornay Annandale of Wichita State. Teammates Jason Meyer and Jeff Joiner finished fifth and ninth, respectively. The Panthers, picked to finish second behind host Illinois State in the pre-meet poll, tallied 53 points in the final standings while ISU took second with 69 and Southwest Missouri State had 73.
