Fields of Gold Fields of Gold gaat over geluk en gelukkig zijn, en tegelijkertijd beseffen dat geluk eindig is. Sting, ofwel Gordon Sumner schreef het nummer nadat hij een huis op het Engelse platteland had gekocht, omgeven door gerstakkers (fields of barley). De zonsopgang, de zonsondergang en zijn grote liefde voor eega Trudie Styler inspireerden de singer songwriter tot dit lyrische lied. Het stel trouwde in 1992. Fields of Gold is de tweede single van Stings album Ten Summoners Tales dat hij in 1993 uitbracht. Dat Sting een echte poëet is blijkt uit de uitleg die hij zelf gaf bij Fields of Gold: “Ons huis is omgeven door velden vol gerst en vooral in de zomer is het bijna hypnotiserend om te zien hoe de wind over die velden scheert en het graan laat golven als een oceaan van goud. Er is iets aan die aanblik dat het heel sexy maakt, een oergevoel, alsof de wind de liefde bedrijft met de gerst. Geliefden zweerden elkaar hier in deze velden eeuwige trouw. Ik weet zeker dat hun banden werden versterkt door de geruststellende cyclus van de seizoenen.” Wie is Sting? Zijn echte naam is Gordon Sumner, geboren in 1951. In 1977 werd hij bekend als leadzanger Sting van popgroep The Police. Samen met Stewart Copeland en Andy Sumners scoorde de band een hele serie hits totdat Sting in 1984 besloot voor een solocarrière. Als de band The Police startten de jongens in de new wave / reggae sound. Als soloartiest scoorde Sting hoge ogen met zijn vaak maatschappij kritische, maar ook lyrische songteksten. Legendarisch is zijn eerste soloalbum The dream of the blue turtles, gevolgd door diverse succesvolle albums waaronder dus ook Ten Summoners Tales. Ik noem een paar prachtige songtitels als They dance alone; Fragile; An Englishman in New York; Moon over Bourbonstreet, afijn check zelf eens youtube zodat je een indruk krijgt van het werk van deze veelzijdige artiest die niet alleen prachtige muziek maakt, maar ook als acteur in een aantal films en toneelstukken furore maakte. Als activist zet Sting zich in voor een betere wereld, hij vraagt aandacht voor mensenrechten van de onderdrukte volkeren van het regenwoud en werkt veel voor onder meer Amnesty International en Human Rights Watch. Shape Of My heart Hintergründe von S. Radic Sting, (*1951 in Wallsend, England, als Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) ist ein britischer Rock- Musiker, Sänger, Bassist sowie Schauspieler. Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner wurde als Sohn eines Milchmanns in Wallsend, einem Vorort von Newcastle upon Tyne, geboren. Von 1971 bis 1974 ließ er sich am Northern Counties Teacher Training College zum Lehrer für Englisch und Musik ausbilden. Vor seiner Karriere als Profimusiker arbeitete Sumner als Bauarbeiter und Englischlehrer. In seiner Freizeit spielte er in örtlichen Jazz-Gruppen wie den „Phoenix Jazzmen“, der „Newcastle Big Band“ und „Last Exit“. Seinen Spitznamen „Sting“ erhielt er in dieser Zeit: Ten Summoner'S Tales.
