L’Arche was founded in 1964 by Jean Vanier in France, and is an international faith community which works with people with learning disabilities. Currently, there is a L’Arche Community operating in Chesterton, and this term’s collection will go to assist that community in their inspiring work. READING GROUP Michaelmas Term derives its name from the feast of St Michael and all Angels, which occurs on 29 September (in the Western Church). Angels (literally ‘messengers’) and their special ministries are acknowledged by each of the major Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), and a number of people, who would not necessarily identify themselves as fully committed to either of these faiths, nevertheless have a sense of a ‘guardian angel’. This term all members of College are invited to a reading group to explore writings on angels. Taking Sergei Bulgakov’s remarkable book Jacob’s Ladder: On Angels as its basic text, we shall examine a variety of readings, over wine and cheese, during the course of the term. Meetings take place in E3 at 8:30 each Tuesday night, beginning on October 14. Please see the Dean or Decani Scholar for further information, and for distribution of readings.
