Former deputy Finance Minister and author of 'After Dawn: Hope after state capture'. The book covers events leading up to state capture as well as 's economic and political landscape. Mcebisi was one of the first politicians to blow the whistle on state capture, claiming the Gupta brothers offered him R 600m to take the position of Finance Minister:

He is one of four Presidential Investment Envoys, appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to attract USD100-billion to South Africa over the next five years. He also holds various non-executive board positions in listed and non-listed companies. As Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament from 2014 to 2017, he helped to steer South Africa’s economy through one of the country’s most difficult post-democratic periods. He also served as Chairperson and Non- Executive Director of the Public Investment Corporation. Before his appointment to national government, Mcebisi played a key political leadership role in the , serving as Finance MEC and CEO of the Eastern Cape Development Corporation. His activism has defined his political career. During the anti-apartheid struggle he was part of the ANC’s military wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe, and spent his exile years in Uganda. He also led a number of key political activities within South Africa including the establishment of the UDF in the Eastern Cape. Upon his return from exile in the 1990’s, he was central in establishing the ruling ANC and the SACP structures.
