1 MY UNCLE PRINCE. the Music Icon's Nephew President Nelson MY UNCLE PRINCE. The music icon’s nephew President Nelson continues the Prince legacy by interviewing both those who knew him well and young artists who are influenced by him today. The Prince Story: On April 21, 2016, the world lost one of the most iconic, talented and mysterious artists it has ever known. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince Rogers Nelson was the son of a local jazz musician, John L. Nelson and jazz singer Mattie Nelson. The couple would go on to have a daughter, Tyka Nelson, and the family would reside in the urban neighborhood of North Minneapolis. It was from there that the talent of a young genius would develop into a man who would write music history for the next four decades. Upon Prince’s untimely death, people around the world shared their sorrow and memories for a man who meant so much to them, a mythical man who was equally intriguing offstage. In the midst of this was President Nelson, the son of Prince’s beloved sister Tyka. As the next generation, President has a responsibility to his mother, his family and the world to help navigate through the chaos, uncertainty and confusion caused by Prince’s untimely death. Questions keep unfolding in the years after his uncle’s death and as the next generation, he wants the answers. How does the music move forward, now that its creator is gone? How can we preserve the legacy of the music and the man of mystery who still means so much to so many? Join President Nelson as he seeks out musicians, celebrities, friends, music industry insiders and the next generation of artists who provide answers to the question- who was Prince Rogers Nelson? 1 THE HOST As Prince’s nephew and son of Tyka, President Nelson is next in the family line to carry on the Prince legacy. President’s perspective on the Prince mystique is different from most fans and the public. Having only met his uncle about a dozen times, President still grew up aware of Prince’s influence and mythological image, and feels compelled to humanize the legend, who he remembers as a “funny, dedicated, complex artist”, but yearns to know as a person. President has access to those who knew Prince best and believes his mission for My Uncle Prince is to “help others feel more connected to him using me as their avatar, to learn these stories together and be in his world.” MY UNCLE PRINCE TALK SHOW (CONCEPT #1) Each half-hour episode would be shot at Paisley Park, the Prince studio and recording mecca that is now a museum based just outside Minneapolis. Because of his family’s connection to the museum, President Nelson has behind-the-scenes access to the studios and stage where the artist famously recorded and performed for decades. The episodes each feature two guests; one musician, celebrity, friend or music insider who knew Prince well and the other, a younger, popular artist who has been influenced by the music legend. 2 President Nelson will delve into various subjects/topics that he knows were of interest to Prince such as: Music, the Press, Film, Food, Sexuality, Religion, Sports, Fashion, Politics, Comedy, Philanthropy, Community, Racism, and more. With respect and sincerity, President wants to learn about the man behind the magic like anyone seeking knowledge about their ancestry and share these stories with the same humor and style that informed his Uncle Prince’s life. The interviews will be supported by still images, videos, mementos, some never before seen. On more than occasion, we will include a live performance featuring one of the guests covering a Prince song or performing an original piece that honored Prince in some way. POTENTIAL GUESTS: President asks questions everyone wants to know, as well as those that come from the heart. Because he’s family, guests share stories with him that are honest and sometimes surprising. We’ll create an intimate space that accommodates 2-3 people, with a jewel-tone colorful background alive 4 with images, reminiscent of Prince’s personal style: flowy, relaxed and comfy. Adjacent to the set will be a small performance area that feels very much like the interview space. MY UNCLE PRINCE ICONIC LOCATIONS (Concept #2) President Nelson visits cities, studios, clubs and different sites where Prince worked, performed and lived. He will discuss what took place and interview people who were affiliated with Prince and those locations/events. The episodes feature images of the different locations, footage of the event(s) (when possible) and a narrative which would describe what took place there. President interviews (10-15 minutes) selected people related to the event/location. This will include discussions about concerts, studio/song writing, meetings, etc. and will delve into the thought, behavior and mechanics of how Prince developed the art which he produced and how he viewed it’s place in the time in it was presented. The iconic locations could also serve as backdrops to highlighting the familiar and unfamiliar from various periods of Prince’s career. Through exploration and interviews, different clues will be revealed in solving the mystery of who this artist known as Prince was and how he became a legend. By the end of each episode the viewer and President Nelson will have a deeper understanding of Prince Rogers Nelson. prince all albums free download HITnRUN: Phase Two. Following quickly on the heels of its companion, HITnRUN: Phase Two is more a complement to than a continuation of its predecessor. Prince ditches any of the lingering modern conveniences of HITnRUN: Phase One -- there's nary a suggestion of electronics and it's also surprisingly bereft of guitar pyrotechnics -- in favor of a streamlined, even subdued, soul album. Despite its stylistic coherence, Prince throws a few curve balls, tossing in a sly wink to "Kiss" on "Stare" and opening the album with "Baltimore," a Black Lives Matter protest anthem where his outrage is palpable even beneath the slow groove. That said, even the hardest-rocking tracks here -- that would be the glammy "Screwdriver," a track that would've been an outright guitar workout if cut with 3rdEyeGirl -- is more about the rhythm than the riff. Compared to the relative restlessness of HITnRUN: Phase One, not to mention the similarly rangy Art Official Age, this single-mindedness is initially overwhelming but like any good groove record, HITnRUN: Phase Two winds up working best over the long haul, providing elegant, supple mood music whose casualness plays in its favor. Prince isn't showing off, he's settling in, and there are considerable charms in hearing a master not trying so hard. • Prince Puts out on His Latest Vinyl Newest Halen Musically Tasty
Page 4, SIDELINES, Wednesday, June 8, 1988 Jlii v.«S;;;:i¥i¥' & :>>*:■• 3S Newest Halen musically tasty By DAVE CHANDLER Entertainment Writer Well kids, it's finally here, the long-awaited new album by Van Hagar, Van Hefflen, I mean Van Halen. What a catchy little tide it has, OU812, pretty clever huh? OU812 is the eigth Van Halen album or second one A.D. (after Dave). The bottom line to this album is thet it rocks. What is so great about OU812 is that it is not packed with the commercialism found in most of today's hard rock i albums. Now don't get me wrong, because it does include songs that will obviously be major hits. One track in particular, "When It's Love," is destined to be a Top 10 mainstay, but none of that Van Halen style was lost while producing the song. And if you're looking for the 90 m.p.h. speedbumers that the grovp is famous for, you'll also find them here. Two such songs are "Source of Infection" and "Sucker In A 3 Piece." These are sure to get your feet a tappin' or your head a bangin', whatever your preference may be. As usual there are the incredible guitar heroics of Eddie Van Halen and the band's great harmonies in the backup vocals. These are epitomized in the first single from the Wayne Cartwright+Staff album, "Black and Blue," which, incidentally, gets my vote Pleasing the crowd at Fan Fair... for the dirtiest song on the airwaves at the present time.
