Fall 2006 BARGE MUSIC

FULTON FERRY LANDING,

It doesn't take long to hear whatmakes Bargemusic the perfect chamber music hall. .. In a standard hall, even a comparatively small one like Alice Tully or Merkin, the sound they produced would have been not just quiet, but distant as well. In the intimate confines of Bargemusic, though, this restrained passage sacrificed nothing in presence or fine-grained detail. Allan Kozinn - The Times

Dear Friends, This calendar is an invitation offered in warm welcome. It is Mark Peskanov who assembles compatible virtuosi and intriguing composers in Herculean effort unprecedented in history. Throughout the years masses of players and listeners of all the world have arrived on the tidal embrace of our harbor to share the infinite variety of passions expressed in the rise and fall of music. Each of you, dear friends, has added growing strength and we are profoundly grateful. It may amuse you to learn that all of us here on the Barge who have been trained as musicians are now being instructed in the language of numbers. Admittedly we have failed to achieve financial entrenchment for future stability although we never had a deficit either. On appeal from us, people of generous spirit from the land of the stock exchange across the East River are teaching us how to translate our mission into the precise but abstract art of numbers. It is a challenging effort but glorious when strangers become friends. Intuition says music is numbers and numbers are music but emotional drama of all individuals is always present.

Long live happy evolution,

Love, 4", ~
