It is commonly known as oleander but has many other names like Nerium indicum mill. and Nerium odorum soland. It bears flowers in clusters with white, pink, yellow and red colours. It contains plumericin, alpha-amyrin, beta-sitosterol, kaempferol, cardioactive glycosides named Odorosides A-H obtained from the root bark. Leaves contain the cardiac glycosides kaneroside, neriumoside, digitoxigenin, alpha –L-olendroside -5α-adynerin and other glycosides. Odorosides are cardioactive glycosides. Gentiobiosyl –oleandrin, Odoroside A and Oleandrin were the main glycosides identified. It has potent cardiotonic activity, digitalis like effect on heart. It has been reported to have effective against skin diseases,wound infections, cancer, diabetes, inflammation and CNS depression. All parts of the plant are poisonous in nature which can be treated by the use of activated charcoal.Topical preparation containing Nerium extract can be used as antiageing cream. Agrie. Univ. P.R. 90(l-2):99-107 (2006) ABSTRACT Aphids associated with papaya plants were collected from two sites in Puerto Rico (Isabela and Corozal) and three farms in Homestead, Florida. Between the two regions, Florida and Puerto Rico, twenty-one species of aphids from 12 genera were identified: Aphis sp., Aphis illinoisensis Shimer, Aphis spiraecola Patch, Aphis gossypii Glover, Aphis craccivora Koch, Aphis /dd/ef on/7 (Thomas), Aphis ner/7'Boyer de Fonscolombe, Hyperomyzus carduellinus (Theobald), Hysteroneura setariae (Thomas), Lipaphis pseudo- brassicae (Davis), Picturaphis sp., Pentalonia nigronervosa Coquerel, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani), Sarucallis kahawaluokalani (Kirkaldy), Shinjia orientalis (Mordvilko), Schizaphis rotundiventris (Signoret), Tox- optera citricida (Kilkardy), Toxoptera aurantii (Boyer de Fonscolombe), Tetra- neura nigriabdominalis (Sasaki), Uroleucon ambrosiae (Thomas), and Uroleucon pseudoambrosiae (Olive). The number of species was greater in Florida (n = 14) than in Puerto Rico (n = 11). Differences among species were also found between sites in Puerto Rico, with 10 species in Corozal and six in Isabela. Only one species, A. illinoisensis, was common at all sites sam pled, whereas three additional species, A. spiraecola, A. gossypii, and A. craccivora were collected in both the Corozal, Puerto Rico, and the Florida areas. Acquisition of Las by D. citri appears to be variable, and this variability may be due to the suitability of the host plants and their tissues for acquisition. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of symptom severity of the disease on the feeding behaviour of D. citri. Use of an electrical penetration graph showed that the pathway phase of D. citri consisted of four waveforms, A, B, C, and D; wave- forms A and B have not been reported for D. citri before. The remaining waveforms, E1, E2, and G, conform to those described before for D. citri. The duration of the non-penetration period did not differ between healthy or infected plants. However, in moderately and severely symptomatic plants, the duration of the pathway phase increased, whereas the phloem phase was shorter. -

NESOM 2925 Hartwood Drive Fort Worth, Texas 76109 www.guynesom.com ABSTRACT Citrus trifoliata (aka Poncirus trifoliata , trifoliate orange) has become an aggressive colonizer in the southeastern USA, spreading from plantings as a horticultural novelty and use as a hedge. Its currently known naturalized distribution apparently has resulted from many independent introductions from widely dispersed plantings. Seed set is primarily apomictic and the plants are successful in a variety of habitats, in ruderal habits and disturbed communities as well as in intact natural communities from closed canopy bottomlands to open, upland woods. Trifoliate orange is native to southeastern China and Korea. It was introduced into the USA in the early 1800's but apparently was not widely planted until the late 1800's and early 1900's and was not documented as naturalizing until about 1910. Citrus trifoliata L. (trifoliate orange, hardy orange, Chinese bitter orange, mock orange, winter hardy bitter lemon, Japanese bitter lemon) is a deciduous shrub or small tree relatively common in the southeastern USA. The species is native to eastern Asia and has become naturalized in the USA in many habitats, including ruderal sites as well as intact natural commmunities. It has often been grown as a dense hedge and as a horticultural curiosity because of its green stems and stout green thorns (stipular spines), large, white, fragrant flowers, and often prolific production of persistent, golf-ball sized orange fruits that mature in September and October. -

Antifungal active compounds bioautography bioassays against Cladosporium herbarum have been detected. Comparative studies of Toddalia sp. (leaves), Limonia acidissima (leaves), Vepris bilocularis (leaves), Coleonema pulchellum (roots), Triphasia trifoliata (leaves), Pleiospermum alatum (leaves and stem), Acronychia pedunculata (leaves), and Atalantia sp. (leaves) extract showed clear inhibition zones on TLC plates against C. herbarum. In microdilution bioassay, the leaf extracts of Fortunella hindsii exhibited the strongest fungicidal activity with a MIC value at 312.5 μg/mL and showed an inhibition of spore germination at EC50 of 114 μg/mL for Botrytis cinerea. L. acidissima leaf extracts displayed a MIC of 1250 μg/mL and showed an inhibition of spore germination with EC50 0 values at 589 μg/mL for B. cinerea. The leaf extracts of two different collections of Glycosmis mauritiana (RUT 213/7) and (RUT 400) revealed clear differences for the antifungal activity: the EC50 value of the former was at 70 μg/mL, but 1249 μg/mL for the latter. G. mauritiana (RUT 213/7) revealed clear differences for the antifungal activity: the EC50 value at 70 μg/mL. Stem extracts of Pleiospermum alatum showed activities with values at EC50 262 μg/mL against B. -
