This experience was a big learning experience for me in both personal and professional front. The holy shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is situated 914 metres above sea level amidst dense forests in the rugged terrains of the Western Ghats. Lord Ayyappa is looked upon as the guardian of mountains and there are several shrines dedicated to him all along the Western Ghats. The festivals here are the Mandala Pooja, Makara Vilakku (December/January) and Vishu Kani (April). The temple is also open for pooja on the first 5 days of every Malayalam month. The vehicles go only up to Pampa and the temple, which is situated 5 km away from Pampa, can be reached only by trekking. Toxics Link has unique experience in the areas of hazardous, medical and municipal wastes, as well as in specifi c issues such as the international waste trade and the emerging issues of pesticides and POP’s. It has implemented various best practices models based on pilot projects in some of these areas. It is responding to demands upon it to share the experiences of these projects, upscale some of them and to apply past experience to larger and more signifi cant campaigns. Ryan was able to paddle a small piece of his boat to go on Diane Hileman and win first place in the 15–50 category with Marine Iguana coming in President, Membership second. Phyllis Woolfe and Anne Baxter (S.S. Rock n Roll), racing unopposed, paddled to the finish line for first place in the 51 and older Melanie Dynes category. The holy shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is situated 914 metres above sea level amidst dense forests in the rugged terrains of the Western Ghats.
