DISCLAIMER

This report contains statements relating to the feasibility of cutting humanitarian aid ("forward-looking statements"). these statements are based on current expectations and projections of interventions in favour of local associations about future events and, by their nature, are subject to inherent risks and uncertainties. They relate to events and depend on circumstances that may or may not occur or exist in the future, and, as such, you should not make an undue reliance on them. actual results could differ materially from those included in these statements due to a number of factors, including the volatility and deterioration of capital markets and financial services, changes in the prices of raw materials, changes in macroeconomic conditions and the country's economic growth and o ther changes in business conditions, changes in legislation and institutional context of burundi, socio-political factors and many other factors, the majority of whom is beyond the control of associations.

FOREWORD

The present feasibility study was prepared at the request of the Burundi Association Amo which, in partnership with several associations in Burundi, and with the support of the Diocese of , intends to carry out in the Republic of Burundi, situated on the African continent (Central Africa), an intervention aimed at agricultural training, the development of agriculture, the creation of an agricultural sector, through the dissemination of best practices among families associated with suitable to enhance and improve the working and living conditions of women and children, many of whom are orphans of war. The Burundi Association Amo, promoter and project leader forms a bridge between Burundi and Italy, where it has a branch office, and is in constant contact with the members of local associations in Burundi. The Government of Burundi has signed a memorandum of understanding with the humanitarian organization Orifan Italy, expressing against the latter awards and appreciation for the interest shown to the situation prevailing in Burundi. The project required currency and no longer be put off and the modernisation of farming and the increased activity of cattle, pigs, hens and bees by improving the efficiency of the local terrain, respecting the environment and biodiversity. The modernisation of activities will make it more fruitful and profitable as well as more farmers, aimed primarily at the business incentive meeting the food needs of family farmers. Associations, through families, have the availability of several acres of land, including residual to devote to cultivation and farming.

Burundi is a Country battered by the recent civil war and any work, for hope relapse, must be made through the local populations. Women are at the heart of farming in the country, but often lack appropriate tools and training to get the necessary support from Earth to feed families. Burundi has a long agricultural tradition that, thanks to the proposed intervention, can be improved and made efficient for higher quality productions, with attention to hygiene and with a destination more effectively to combat hunger and malnutrition humans and animals alike.

This paper contains a feasibility study which takes into account the financial value of the project but that aims to identify the benefits and positive impact through a replicable system to scale across the country. The feasibility study and the proposed action will be presented to potential humanitarian organizations, funds, charities and corporations that can contribute to the realization of the project and the development of the country through the target of contributions aimed at alleviating hunger through a circular system that points not to provide outright aid but which seeks to equip the people and workers of educational and work likely to be drawn from primary activities, agriculture and animal husbandry, resources needed for sustenance and to trade, favouring an eco-friendly activities and able to contribute to the slowing of the exploitation of natural resources, though present in the country, preserving the environment thanks to the beneficial effects that non-intensive agricultural activities are to land and in the air. This project will meet the demand for raw materials and products derived from the cultivation of the land and their transformation that local demand is currently met by recording a steady increase.

As evidenced by this feasibility study intervention is economically viable because the expected results will satisfy basic needs related to the development of the person, with food and instruments capable of triggering a trading system that can provide an effective remedy in terms of combating hunger, infant mortality, environmental protection and the improvement of employment.

The poverty prevailing in the Burundian population, due to the civil war in Burundi more Genetics for over 13 years, have enabled the levers of the Church to allow to change the essential humanitarian aid in a cultural awakening and local business that may trigger a virtuous circle that serves as an example to be replicated at scale across the country.

The project objective is the modernization of farm machinery, agricultural and cattle-breeding techniques, encourage better hygiene to safeguard public health and especially children, subject to a rate of mortality high, promote and encourage the education of adolescents and youth training, prevent the continued exodus of refugees fleeing to neighbouring countries and seeking ways for Europe, all goals are essential for building the future of Country.

The perennial and deplorable situation of malnutrition, poor sanitation, lack of drinking water do not allow any social perspective and have relegated the Country in the last places in the world rankings in poor countries. The lack of knowledge and rural agricultural techniques as well as suitable equipment do not allow an effective farming for food requirements whereby conquer malnutrition and early deaths due to poor resistance to spread epidemics ( malaria, cholera and HIV).

Progetto umanitario

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Bururi has gathered the consent of several families, composed mostly of widows and children, for you to be willing to follow training programmes aimed at improving sanitation and improved agricultural production and breeding.

To achieve appreciable results require equipment, equipment, seeds and teachers that even with the e-learning method can allow the dissemination of agricultural techniques. The project is aimed at all those charities, large enterprises, international donors and all those organizations able to provide tools and unused farming machines so that they can be reused in a country very poor where the daily per capita income is only one dollar. The intervention area is the South of the Country but with the goal that the improvement of the living conditions makes it possible to replicate such actions (best practice) in other provinces.

Several families were grouped in associations formed in the territory in order to join forces and the necessary land to cultivate the land to fight malnutrition and restore dignity to a people battered by war, famine and by climatic events extreme caused by climate change. The project cannot go unnoticed and the international community has a duty to intervene by helping to grant an opportunity that can initiate a real reversal of the statistics reported below.

The project aims to disseminate good farming practice of beekeeping and breeding of pigs and integrates within the framework of socio-economic reintegration assistance above all women of the Diocese of Bururi, adherents to the associations beneficiaries. The aim of the project is to provide these women with the tools that enable them to achieve in the short and medium term the opportunity to produce

• Fight against poverty and the vulnerability faced by especially widows and children

• Increase and improve efficiency of agricultural production

• Increase in food production to ensure a regular supply to households

The mortality rate indicates the average annual number of deaths per 1,000 persons at midyear, also known as crude mortality rate. The mortality rate is not only a rough indicator of the situation of mortality in the Country but accurately indicates the current mortality impact on population growth. This indicator is significantly influenced by the age distribution, and the graph shows an increase in the overall death rate, despite the continuing decline in mortality at all ages, since the decline in fertility translates into a aging population.

This situation has led to the current consequences amid The structural weakness and the absorption capacity of the massive displacements of people within the country and its services and institutions of the State in most regions are an neighbors, with an alarming nutritional situation, increased impediment to citizens ' access to basic services. Poverty, coupled bearing in mind the needs of protection of individual rights, the with low efficiency of basic services to populations, increases their protection of minors and the fight against gender violence. vulnerability, even in the less affected by movements that have no chance to respond in the event of a sudden shock.

Inflation helps to increase the economic vulnerability of families. While agriculture is the main source of revenue for 90 percent of the population, the cultivated areas are insufficient, low fertility, subject to erosion, often reduced to subsistence farming. The absence or weakness of crops, added to the displacement of thousands of persons belonging to a community already weakened, had the effect of increasing their vulnerability and caused insecurity in the territory of Burundi.

29

Progetto umanitario

Finally, the climate will probably become a risk factor and an inevitable exposure of populations to natural disasters; floods, landslides and torrential rains have impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, causing the displacement of 188,000 people from September 2015 to date. These weather events have cost human lives and destroyed hundreds of homes and schools. Across the country, hundreds of thousands of people are in a situation of vulnerability, either because they are still displaced--mostly in host families or in sites where you have moved into deplorable living conditions--or because they lost their livelihoods or are still exposed to security risks associated with the security context and the ongoing continuation of violence, including gender-based violence, and those that affect children. These situations cause a heavy impact on the populations of local communities, on families who are themselves vulnerable and who do not receive adequate assistance, due to lack of funding and actors. In this context, the project aims to give priority to the most vulnerable populations, aid 2018 with work tools and training activities in the field able to shake the local population to become an active part of a desirable economic recovery, together with access to basic services and in particular to nutrition and health, through the recovery and growth of the means of subsistence which are likely to promote voluntary return and reintegration of displaced persons and refugees, with the support of the host communities. To meet these challenges, they see more than one out of three Burundian depend today by humanitarian assistance for the vital needs, this project aims to address the priority needs by offering the possibility of producing agricultural products on site with techniques most modern and raise cattle to start a process of internal development in a context of General State budget deficits and weaknesses of the response of the State in many parts of the country.

Local associations aid does not involve local interference as possible with respect to the maintenance of independence, impartiality and neutrality of the action of intervention which is critical to the implementation of an ethical approach. The Burundi Amo Association

will take care of the communication with local associations and will address local community decisions and beneficiaries in the pursuit of the development plan. The Burundi mo Association will prepare a reporting on the use of funds and be accountable to donors. This project has as main goals the improvement of more than poor health, facilitating access to water and a conscious use of this vital resource, education of children, food security, the fight against malnutrition through the development of agriculture and stock raising. Local authorities do not have sufficient resources to meet these needs. The children of members may attend school cycles, currently 12% of children has not been educated, the existing 89% of schools have no access to clean water and 75% of them is devoid of toilets. About 400 classrooms were destroyed by the floods, only 79 were restored in June 2017. Over 54% of the population have no access to clean water, does not enjoy minimum conditions of hygiene; In addition, 61 percent of children under 5 years suffers from anemia (EDS 2017). The price of basic commodities has increased more than 50% (mVAM, ASIASAN, SIP). Many cases of gender-based violence, especially sexual violence continue to be reported by service providers in the country. Serious human rights violations are reported in all regions. In 2018 the humanitarian action will focus as a priority in the worst affected areas of Kirundo, Gitega, Makamba, Bujumbura rural, Rumonge as well as on the border of the provinces in the East of the country.

The overall objective of this project is to respond effectively to combat and contribute to the prevention of emergency situations, to improve and promote access to basic social services and provide for the basic needs support to community premises to ensure the minimum conditions of life, the dignity and wellbeing of those affected by the deterioration of socio-economic factors, as well as natural disasters. It emphasizes the centrality of protection to ensure the rights of the persons concerned and their dignity and integrate the principles of transversality of the protection . Sectoral objectives are closely related to strategic humanitarian objectives. Will establish a monitoring mechanism to measure, based on quantifiable indicators, progress towards these goals and, by extension, the implementation of the project. The program requires an active participation of local communities (associations) in order to ensure the sustainability of the actions taken to facilitate the reunion of displaced relatives and to start the transition towards a better resilience.
