Gecko Studio Gallery Newsletter May June 2018 Gecko Studio Gallery Newsletter May June 2018 A group show following on from the highly successful 2016 exhibition ‘L’oeuvre des Oeufs – The Work of the Eggs’. There were quite a few sales back in 2016 but it was the critical acclaim that made it such a standout show. Record numbers of people came through the gallery and were delighted with the diverse and engaging display! Feedback was fantastic! We published a book of the exhibition which you can view online here (http://au.blurb.com/books/7314267-l-oeuvre-des-oeufs-the-work-of-the-eggs). Two years on and we have another great exhibition of Fish Creek ostrich eggs decorated and transformed. Photography doesn’t do justice of course, you really need to see the exhibition. We have never closed like this before but we need to so as to recharge, carry out repair and reno works, give staff a holiday break and generally take a rest. Over the next two months we will advertise the dates and arrangements for framing etc. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- “Headquarters”, our café, is still going strong as the crazy times of the ‘high’ season slowly recede and we look forward to the influx of visitors during Easter. Headquarters is serving a unique wood roasted artisan coffee from Melbourne (Ricci Method), delicious teas (Calmer Sutra), including fresh chai, hot chocolates and cold drinks. Headquarters also has a range of sweet and savoury foods to dine in or takeaway - we offer specialty salads (try our sushi bowl!) and delicious vegan raw slices from local supplier “A Seasoned Kitchen” - from amongst a range of culinary treats on offer. As cooler times approach we will be offering luscious soups and curries. We are always looking at new treats and products so keep an eye on the Gecko / Headquarters Facebook page and on Instagram. Entering through the gate, guests are greeted by the lovely private garden filled with interesting plants and flowers and by the ancient apple tree in pride of place in the back yard. The walls host an array of contemporary original artwork by renowned local artists for sale - your very own private gallery. With an open central living area, full kitchen, a generous sized bedroom and beautifully appointed bathroom, the ArtHouse is light filled, comfortable and cosy. 4 Quality linen and bath towels are provided, just bring your beach towels. We also supply a portable cot with mattress protector, sheet and extra blankets. A library of artbooks and novels, an interesting dvd and cd collection and current art and style magazines have been collected for your enjoyment. Fish Creek is home to 4 galleries, and a suite of lovely cafes' including Gecko's very own coffee bar - HeadQuarters, Gibsons - serving delicious breakfasts, lunches, then tapas in the evening! There is a range of interesting shops and the iconic Fish Creek Hotel with the fish on top. The ArtHouse is perfect as a base from which to visit local wineries, walk or ride on the Great Southern Rail Trail and of course visit Wilsons Prom and the many beaches in the local area.     • 37° 48ʹ S: artists navigate MELBOURNE is an exciting and provocative visual art project exploring the cultural diversity of contemporary Australia as exemplified by life in Melbourne. Street-art practices and traditional printmaking techniques are on an equal footing as twelve diverse, exceptional Melbourne artists consider the cultural, natural and built environments of their city. • The twelve 37° 48ʹ S: artists navigate MELBOURNE project artists are: Angela Cavalieri, Bindi Cole, Carmel Wallace, Cat Poljski, Debra Luccio, Eolo Paul Bottaro, Heather Shimmen, Regan Tamanui aka HA! HA! Judy Holding, Marco Luccio, Rona Green, Rone • A new network of artists whose work collectively presents a unique perspective of life in Melbourne will be established. • The large format, limited edition suite of prints created by these twelve artists will be previewed in Melbourne before journeying to New York where it will join a complementary body of work created by the New York Society of Etchers in response to their city. The collection includes mainly correspondence, exhibition details, printmakers, gallery/art centres, colleges/universities, entry forms, slides, receipts and copies of newspaper clippings. They provide a comprehensive history of the administrative processes of the council and its exhibitions. The majority of the collection contains correspondence written by administrative staff; of greater interest is the correspondence, often handwritten by the artists themselves.
