Hbo Wraps up the Final Season of Treme HBO WRAPS UP THE FINAL SEASON OF TREME Miami, FL – November 20, 2013 – HBO Latin America announced that the fourth and final season of its original drama series Treme will premiere on December 1st in the Caribbean, simultaneously with the United States. The acclaimed series revisits musicians, chefs, Mardi Gras Indians, and other familiar New Orleanians who, despite the odds, continue holding on to their cultural roots and rebuilding their lives, their homes and their culture after the disastrous impact of Hurricane Katrina from 2005. The series finale takes place in New Orleans 38 months after the disaster, just as President Barack Obama is elected to the White House, giving entrenched residents of this still-battered city reason for optimism. Yet for every struggling individual who hopes to improve his or her lot – or just return to a sense of pre-Katrina normalcy – others are intent on capitalizing the city’s vulnerability and suffocating its culture. Since its premiere in April 2010, Treme has expertly captured the flavor and rich heritage of New Orleans, highlighting the role of the city and the interconnected personal stories of those who endured in Katrina’s wake. This season, as one major character bravely faces his mortality, others look to make headway in their careers and relationships, all amidst hope that an Obama administration will bring renewed attention and financial aid to New Orleans. The results are mixed, as opportunities end up in the hands of outsiders looking for quick financial gain, while keepers of the Creole flame struggle to make their voices heard over the din of construction and local politics. In the series’ final five episodes, which take place from November 2008 through Mardi Gras 2009, the promise of economic and cultural recovery is tempered by sobering economics, continued police corruption, and the ongoing specter of violence and crime. Still, the connection Treme’s protagonists have with their city keeps them committed to its future. The final episodes will close the curtain on these memorable characters, created by David Simon (HBO’s The Corner, The Wire and Generation Kill) and Eric Overmyer (Emmy®-winning Homicide: Life on the Street), who personify the unique, ethnic and cultural diversity that make New Orleans such a vital and vibrant city. Returning cast members include Wendell Pierce, Khandi Alexander, Clarke Peters, Rob Brown, Steve Zahn, Kim Dickens, Melissa Leo, Lucia Micarelli and David Morse. Returning guests include Michiel Huisman, India Ennenga, Jon Seda and Chris Coy. As it has in its past seasons, the final season of Treme will continue featuring cameos by real-life personalities and artists associated with New Orleans music and cuisine, including John Boutté, Kermit Ruffins, Don B, Ellis Marsalis, “Thrombone Shorty” Andrews, Dr. John Batiste, Terence Blanchard and others, portraying themselves. African American women have consistently resisted, challenged, submitted to, and remixed racial myths and sexual stereotypes existing in American cinema and television programming.
