FROM: Ms. Deborah Madrigal, Principal Congratulations on your wonderful achievement. We are so happy to celebrate your success. We would like to remind you of requirements and obligations as you plan for the John Burroughs High School commencement exercises this May. Each senior should be aware of his/her duties and responsibilities in connection with this event. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS – In order to participate in Commencement a senior must have: 1. Successful completion of academic requirements: • Satisfactory grades and completion of 230 credits of study. • No more than two (2) failing semester grades during the senior year.

2. Satisfactory attendance: • No more than FIFTEEN (15) absences (either excused or unexcused) per period per class per semester of the senior year.

3. Satisfactory citizenship • No more than one (1) suspension for any reason during the senior year. • No more than a total of two (2) “unsatisfactory” (U) marks in citizenship on the report card from two different teachers during each semester in the senior year. In addition to the above, students must: 4. Participate in the rehearsal prior to Commencement in order to graduate on stage. (If allowed, per State and County Health Guidelines)

5. Be in their 8th semester of high school unless there are extenuating circumstances which prevents student from completing high school within the traditional four-year structure.

6. Payment (prior to commencement ceremony) of all indebtedness acquired during high school years.

7. Have the Graduation Participation agreement signed and on file in the school office. Each senior’s name on the Diploma will appear exactly the same as they are in the school’s records on file.

March 2nd – FAFSA Deadline Letter of Acceptance Celebration: Submit your college letter of acceptance for any vocational/trade school, community college, four year college, and/or the military. Deadlines and more information will be available in March. Submitting your letters will automatically enter you for the opportunity to receive a prize (to be determined at a later date). Yearbooks on Sale: Purchase your Yearbook on the JBHS webstore or www.Jostens.com. $90 with ASB Card, $95 without (discount available through webstore online purchases ONLY). Prices go up in May! Cap and Gown: Have you ordered your cap and gown? If not, you can place your order at www.jostens.com. DEADLINE to order is MONDAY, March 15th!

Graduation Announcements will be distributed this spring. If you still have a balance due please make your final payment using the invoices that have been emailed to you or call 800-JOSTENS. If you have questions about payment or ordering, please call 800-JOSTENS or email [email protected].

Grad Images: (If allowed, per State and County Health Guidelines) GradImages is the official photographer for graduation. Photo proofs will be sent by GradImages after the ceremony. There is no obligation to purchase photos. Pre-registering with GradImages is a great way to ensure photo proofs are sent directly to your email. You can also enter up to six additional emails that you would like proofs sent to. AP Econ/Gov EXAMS on Sale: AP Exam sale was in the Fall Semester October 5 – November 12, 2020. For the Spring Semester, only students enrolled in a second semester AP Econ or AP Gov class may purchase that exam online through the JBHS Webstore or at the Student Store from March 1 – March 11, 2021. AP Exams will take place May 18th – 27th. See AP Exam information in this packet. The cost is $95 per test. Now until April 16th – Service Learning Hours: If you wish to earn the Service Learning Medallion, turn in your hours that complete the 100 hours required to be an eligible recipient. Send to Mrs. Campos at [email protected]. The deadline is on April 16th, 2021. Now until April 30th – Applications for University Pin Gold Tassel: If you have a 3.0 or better Grade Point Average for four or more semesters of high school, you are eligible to wear a gold tassel during the graduation ceremony. No need to apply. A report will be generated to obtain a list of qualified seniors who have met the qualification. University Pin: If you have met all the University requirements, have applied to a 4-year University and have an acceptance letter, you may be eligible to wear a University Pin during the graduation ceremony. To apply, email a copy of your University acceptance letter to Mrs. Cascolan at [email protected] no later than Friday, April 30th at 3:00 pm. Make sure to title your email “UC Pin Application”. Late applications will not be accepted. Gold Tassels and University pins distribution day TBD. March 8th until April 23rd – Senior Slideshow Submissions: Senior Slideshow – The Senior Slideshow is a great way to reminisce on your childhood and years at JBHS! Seniors are encouraged to submit photos of you and your friends. You may submit a maximum of 5 pictures by email from March 8th until April 23rd to the ASB Senior Class President, Alyssa Valenzuela at [email protected]

Now until May 26th (or until sold out) – Senior Panoramic Photos on Sale: The Senior Class Panoramic will include all senior portraits on a 10x24 full color copy (see below). A mosaic including these pictures will also be included in the 2020- 2021 Yearbook’s senior section. You can pre-purchase your panoramic photo through the JBHS Webstore for $20. Photos will be distributed with other senior regalia, date to be determined.

March 18th until April 9th - Graduation Speakers Tryouts Sign Ups: If you are interested in giving a speech, please sign up online beginning on Monday, March 18th. You may recite either a Reminiscent Speech (3-5 minutes) or Farewell Speech (2-3 minutes).

March 19th – Last day to pay for any purchase with a check in the Student Store: CASH or CREDIT CARD will be accepted at the student store for the remainder of the school year. For the remainder of the school year and summer, checks will not be accepted for any payments or purchases. This includes yearbooks, banquets, indebts and Prom tickets. If you are checking out of school, indebts, including library books must also be paid with cash or money order. This is due to the increased number of bad checks we receive at this time of year.

APRIL

April 15th – Graduation Speaker Tryouts: Seniors wishing to give a speech at Graduation must recite their speech to the Graduation Committee on Thursday, April 15th at 3:00pm. Graduation Speaker Tryouts will take place virtually. This is your chance to be heard and make a lasting impression at YOUR graduation ceremony.

April 26th-30th – College Week: Activities to be announced at a later date.

April 30th – Top of the Tribe: (If allowed, per State and County Health Guidelines. May be part of virtual ceremony) If you received an invite to Top of the Tribe in March, see your Counselor to confirm attendance and let them know where you plan to go after high school. Deadline to RSVP is Friday, April 23rd

May 19th until May 26th – Additional Graduation Tickets FOR SALE: (If allowed. Number of tickets sold per family to be determined, based on State and County Health Guidelines) Seniors may purchase their extra tickets at the Student Store beginning on May 19th until May 26th. Tickets are $10 each. Only seniors who are on track for graduation can purchase tickets. Maximum of 10 tickets can be purchased per student. All indebts must be paid before purchasing tickets. Grad Nite: (If allowed, per State and County Health Guidelines) Grad Nite plans to be determined.

May 17th – Senior Slide Show/Department Awards/Senior Picnic: (If allowed, per State and County Health Guidelines. May be part of virtual ceremony) The Senior Slide Show and Department Awards will be held at 3:00pm in the Auditorium. This event will begin after the administrative announcements. Once the slide show ends students will head out into the quad for the Senior Picnic. The cost is free for the Senior Picnic and Food will be provided. Only Seniors may attend this event, therefore ID is required for admission to the picnic. Seniors who are on track for graduation will receive their cap and gown at the picnic. Seniors must be cleared of indebts and on track for graduation before picking up their Cap and Gown. Seniors who are on the Off- Grad list will not get their items on this day; their items will be held in the main office until they are cleared from the list and on track to graduate. Items can be picked up from Ms. Cascolan in the main office after they are cleared. May 17th – Graduation Tickets: (If allowed. Number of tickets sold per family to be determined, based on State and County Health Guidelines) Distribution day to be determined. Seniors must be cleared of all indebts and must be on track for graduation to receive their graduation tickets. Seniors must have their Student ID in order to pick up their tickets. Additional tickets will be for sale at the Student Store beginning Wednesday, May 19th May 17th– Senior Awards Night: (If allowed, per State and County Health Guidelines. May be part of virtual ceremony) This will be held in the John Burroughs Main Gym from 7:00-9:00 pm. Refreshments will be served between 6:30-7:00 pm. Award presentations will be from 7:00-9:00 pm. There is no cost. Seniors will receive an invitation to Awards Night if they are receiving an award. Invitation will be mailed to the mailing address listed in AERIES. Seniors will RSVP to the College/Career Center if they plan to attend. May 27th - Graduation Day: Possible virtual graduation. JBHS Admin is committed to having some form of an In-Person event while following State and County Health Guidelines. Details to follow.

June 8th - Request for Final Transcripts: If you are planning on attending college, you must request to have your final transcripts sent to the school you have committed to. Transcripts can be requested by going to www.Parchment.com beginning Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Fees may apply. Please fill out the Request for Final Transcript on the site. Parchment will send your official transcripts directly to your college after final grades have been reported. Must have all indebts cleared. June 9th - Diploma Pick up

Rehearsal – Wednesday, May 26th at 1:00pm AT MEMORIAL FIELD (START IN BIG GYM)

This is a MANDATORY activity for participation and usually takes about an hour and a half. Graduation: 7:00pm

• All Gates open at 5:00pm – Visitor’s gate and both Home side gates will be open. • Seating will be open on BOTH SIDES of the field. • Make sure you know WHICH SIDE your graduate is sitting on. Note: Tickets for each side are color coded o Last Names A-K Visitor’s Side (limited seating afterwards) Ticket color: RED o Last Names L-Z Home Side Ticket color: WHITE • Graduates will receive a Seating Assignment slip letting them know their assigned seat. • Seniors must arrive no later than 6:00pm – ENTER at MAIN ENTRANCE, Front of School. • Seniors: DO NOT bring cell phones, cameras, purses, jackets or any other unwelcome items. You will not be able to take them to the field. • Gates Close at 6:50pm for Processional. • Gates will reopen after processional around 7:10pm. • NO HEELS WILL BE ALLOWED ON MEMORIAL FIELD (parents or graduates). All graduates will be checked BEFORE the ceremony. NO BALLOONS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE STADIUM

No markings on the top of the Caps or the Gowns will be allowed.

Nothing can be added to Cap & Gown, except school awarded pins and stoles.

SECURITY: Pat downs and purse checks are permitted by the facility and will be done by Prom security staff. Items to be confiscated include but are not limited to the following: alcohol/flasks, all tobacco products, any illegal substances, perfume / cologne in large bottles, canes & zoot chains, eye drops and/or medication (given to school official), gum, glow in the dark items, glue, lighters/matches, markers, mints, pens and pencils, sharp objects, water bottles, wallet chains, or weapons. All attendees must bring a valid ID to the dance. JBHS administration reserves the right to not admit or to dismiss attendees for violating school rules at their discretion.

The Prom is a school function; therefore, all school rules and regulations will be followed and enforced at the Prom facility and parking lot. We will notify parents and suspend students for use or possession of alcohol or drugs before or during the Prom. The police will also be contacted. The suspension could also cause the student to be excluded from the commencement exercise. (In the event the Burroughs’ student brings a guest from outside the school, parents of the Burroughs’ student will be called should there be a problem.) The Prom venue restricts all students to the facilities. Students are not allowed to re-enter the facility. Once the student leaves the premises, they are no longer the responsibility of the Burbank Unified School District.

John Burroughs High School prohibits smoking. The Prom venue is adamant regarding our enforcement of the school rules. Therefore, we insist that all Prom attendees (this includes seniors and their dates, regardless of age), and their parent/guardian, read and sign this agreement. This agreement is for JBHS students AND their guests. Tickets will not be sold to students unless this agreement is signed and returned when you purchase your tickets. All students must be clear of school and library indebts, as well as detention hours, in order to purchase tickets. All students and guests must leave the Prom no later than 11:00 PM. Prom Agreement 2021 May 1st, 2021 Note: Event will be modified or may be cancelled, in accordance with State and County Health Guidelines. No refunds issued Student: “I promise that my guest and I will arrive at the dance and remain at the Prom, drug and alcohol free.
