The people whose faces you see on the cover of this brochure have works published in GIA’s new hymnal, Gather Comprehensive—Second Edition! This collage of photos represents just a sample of the many composers, authors, and arrangers whose works grace the pages of this fine new hymnal. From Gregory the Great to great new young composers, Gather Comprehensive—Second Edition contains a range of musical treasures including traditional hymns, contemporary songs, and just about everything in between, perfect for today’s musically eclectic worshipers. Here at GIA, we believe that worshipers deserve to have the best music available for liturgy. From chant to contem- porary style music, GIA continuously strives to put the very best music and texts in the hands, on the lips, and in the hearts of every singing assembly. In doing so, we proudly offer a wide selection of hymnals. GIA also firmly believes that the tools of worship should be suitably dignified. Music is a beautiful way to pray; shouldn’t your hymnals be beautiful too? Great pride and careful craftsmanship go into the design, engraving, printing and binding of each book. Our beautiful hymnals are also more environmentally sound and economical than disposable worship aids. GIA’s hymnals are substantial and last for years. The large selection of carefully edited material in each book gives a parish room to grow and learn new music without sacrificing well-known repertoire. At GIA we are committed to helping you find the right hymnal for your parish and we are willing to bend over backwards to accommodate your financial circumstances. No parish should be prevented from enjoying a permanent hardbound hymnal because of cost. Keep reading to find out more about GIA’s fine family of hymnals, including our newest addition: Gather Comprehensive—Second Edition! Cover Art Answer Key 30 4 26 27 28 1 2 3 6 29 1. These people told us what music they did and did not use and offered a wide range of valuable comments. We are extremely grateful to these individuals for their practi- cal insight and experience! The GIA hymnal committee studied the results of this survey carefully, mixing suggestions with their own 100 years of combined experience as pastoral musicians, and carefully chose the contents of Gather Comprehensive—Second Edition. GIA’s experienced staff then engraved, edited, and designed the hymnal, and a release date of March 1, 2004, is expected for the people’s edition, available both with and without Sunday readings. Accompaniment editions and a CD recording of thecomplete hymns, songs, psalms, and service music will be published throughout the spring and summer of 2004. While the original Gather Comprehensive is more of a songbook with some ritual music, this Second Edition is a com- plete hymnal and service book in the fullest sense of the term. It is truly a “comprehensive” hymnal offering the songs, hymns, psalmody, and service music so well loved in today’s parishes, along with the very best in new liturgical music! We hope you enjoy using Gather Comprehensive—Second Edition as much as we loved creating it. • 576 hymns and songs • 853 musical and liturgical items • Plus musical settings of the entire 3-year cycle of Lectionary psalms by Michel Guimont for Sundays and solemnities • Morning and evening prayer • More music for the rites than the original Gather Comprehensive including music for RCIA, baptism of children, reconciliation, funeral rites, etc.
