The Lab supports emerging filmmakers in India, as part of the Institute’s sustained commitment to international artists, which in the last 25 years has included programs in Brazil, Mexico, Jordan, Turkey, Japan, Cuba, Israel and Central Europe. Now in its second year, the fourday Lab is a creative and strategic partnership between Drishyam Films and Sundance Institute, and gives independent screenwriters the opportunity to work intensively on their feature film scripts in an environment that encourages innovation and creative risktaking. The Lab is centered around oneonone story sessions with creative advisors. Screenwriting fellows engage in an artistically rigorous process that offers lessons in craft, a fresh perspective on their work and a platform to fully realize their material. Leading the Lab in India is Drishyam founder, Manish Mundra. He said, “A beautiful heritage city in my hometown of Rajasthan, Udaipur forms an ideal writers retreat, and is the perfect environment for a diverse group of emerging writers and renowned mentors to have a refreshing and productive exchange. Our goal is that the six selected Indian projects, after undergoing a comprehensive mentoring process, will quickly move from script to screen and make their mark globally. -

We have to live with this saguna ahamkara. And once we are forced to live with this ahamkara, it is better that we understand the ahamkara well, so that we know how to handle it properly. Science is able to handle the nature more and more only because science has been able to know nature more and more. Knowledge gives the capacity for better handling. And therefore Sri Krishna says: you have to understand your own ahamkara very well. For that, you must know what type of ahamkara you have; which guna is dominant, which guna is in middle; the second place, and which guna is the lowest; better you understand and you also know how these gunas influence your vyavaharika life; both material life, as well as the spiritual life. -

Journal of World Literature 5 (2020) 568–586 brill.com/jwl Intermedial Translation as Circulation Chu Tien-wen, Taiwan New Cinema, and Taiwan Literature Jessica Siu-yin Yeung soas University of London, London, UK [email protected] Abstract We generally believe that literature first circulates nationally and then scales up through translation and reception at an international level. In contrast, I argue that Taiwan literature first attained international acclaim through intermedial translation during the New Cinema period (1982–90) and was only then subsequently recognized nationally. These intermedial translations included not only adaptations of literature for film, but also collaborations between authors who acted as screenwriters and film- makers. The films resulting from these collaborations repositioned Taiwan as a mul- tilingual, multicultural and democratic nation. These shifts in media facilitated the circulation of these new narratives. Filmmakers could circumvent censorship at home and reach international audiences at Western film festivals. The international success ensured the wide circulation of these narratives in Taiwan. Her tenure as Secretary to the President is for contract basis. Omita is 63 years old. She replaced Christy L Fernandez. Omita Paul was appointed as the information commissioner in the central Information Commission in the year 2009 for the short duration of time at the end of the UPA-I government’s tenure. In addition, she had resigned to join as the Advisor in Finance Ministry from 2004 to 2009. Omita is a retired officer from Indian Information Service (IIS) from 1973 batch. Omita Paul is the wife of KK Paul. KK Paul was the former Delhi Police Commissioner. He is working as the member of the Union Public Service Commission. • Hesham Kandil Named Egypt's New Prime Minister: Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi elected fifty-year- old Hisham Kandil as the country’s Prime Minister on 26 July. Morsi ordered the country’s former minister of water resources and irrigation, Kandil to form a new government. Kandil, holds an engineering degree from Cairo University in the year 1984 and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in the year 1993. Kandil will be the first Egyptian prime minister to wear a beard, which is a sure sign of change in the country. A number of more experienced names were suggested for the prestigious role, but Morsi chose Kandil, a relatively lesser-known face as the Prime Minister of the country, this could be because he wanted someone unlikely to threaten or overshadow him. -
A Queer and Foreign State: Iceland’S Cinematic Subjects
MAXINE SAVAGE A Queer and Foreign State: Iceland’s Cinematic Subjects ABSTRACT Since the year 2000, twenty Icelandic films have been produced which could be aptly grouped as LGBTQ+ or queer Icelandic cinema. This “queer turn” in Icelandic cinema emerges as the nation makes strides in advancing LGBTQ+ rights and as its demographics markedly shift, first-generation immigrants now comprising 12.6 per cent of the population. These changes have not occurred in a vacuum, and the films discussed in this article complicate the boundary between native and foreign, Icelandic and non-Icelandic, alongside their centering of queer characters and stories. In addition to narrative focus on coming-out and sexuality, many of the films within “Icelandic queer cinema” thematize race and ethnicity, often through the inclusion of foreign characters living and traveling in Iceland.This collection of films is thus well suited to exploring the interlock- ing national and sexual regulations which produce the Icelandic nation state. This article explores conceptions of the Icelandic nation state in two films that span Icelandic cinema’s “queer turn,” Baltasar Kormákur’s 101 Reykjavík (2000) and Ísold Uggadóttir’s Andið eðlilega (And Breathe Normally, 2018). In tracing representations of racialized otherness within these films and taking theoretical cues from critical race theory and queer of color critique, this article considers the ways in which race and ethnicity co-constitute categories of sex, gender, and sexual orientation. Ultimately, this article poses “Icelandic queer cinema” as a key site for the contemporary negotiation of the meaning of national and sexual belonging in Iceland. Giacomo Casanova Sergio Mejía Macía Con recurso a la película de Federico Fellini Fellini’s Casanova y a la autobiografía del veneciano, Histoire de ma vie Este texto teatral sobre la vida de Giacomo Casanova (17251798) toma préstamos, sin pudor ni economía, de la película Fellini’s Ca sanova, producida por Alberto Grimaldi y Twentieth Century Fox en 1976, sobre guión escrito a cuatro manos por Bernardino Zapponi y Federico Fellini y dirigida por el último. Consulté sin método la autobiografía de Casanova, escrita en francés con el título Histoire de ma vie y publicada por primera vez en Leipzig entre 1822 y 1824, en traducción alemana. Utilicé la edición francesa establecida por Francis Lacassin, publicada por la casa parisina de Robert Lafront en 1993. Las tres primeras escenas corresponden a episodios de la Histoire de ma vie no incluidos en la película de Fellini. Las restantes siete son interpretaciones libres de episodios tratados por Fellini, todos ellos tergiversados por una lectura muy personal de la Histoire de ma vie, obra a su vez muy personal.
