Strakka Racing Ready for Gibson Debut at the Six Hours of Nürburgring Strakka Racing ready for Gibson debut at the Six Hours of Nürburgring After lapping fastest of the LMP2 runners at the Nürburgring WEC Test, Strakka Racing looks forward to debuting Gibson 015S chassis Strakka Racing travels to the Nürburgring for the final round of the World Endurance Championship’s European leg next week, intent on scoring valuable points in the LMP2 Teams’ and Drivers’ Championships before the four fly-away races. “Missing out on the double points available at Le Mans has left us with more work to do this season than we’d hoped, no question,” says Strakka Racing team principal Dan Walmsley. “Now with the successful test, with straight out of the box pace, the team and drivers are in a more positive frame of mind for the balance of the season and there’s no reason why we can’t be back at the front.” Fastest at the WEC test in July was Jonny Kane who has always enjoyed the challenge the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit has to offer. “I’ve always gone well here since my debut in 2005 in the TVR,” says Kane. “It’s a good track, a little narrower than some of the places we now race so it’s a little trickier to overtake. The short straights mean even if a driver makes a mistake in one of the technical sections, it’s sometimes hard to take advantage, but I like the track.” Despite having raced at the Nürburgring a number of times in the TVR, Panoz and the most recent being 2009 in the Rebellion Lola Judd, Jonny has never completed a lap of the Nordschleife. “My brother and dad go nearly every year, usually after the Spa WEC round. They dragged a 1,600 Astra round last time. I’ve got to do it one day!” The 5.1km GP layout of the Nürburgring plays host to the current form of the World Endurance Championship for the first time this year, after re-developments to the Interlagos circuit in São Paulo Brazil prompted the FIA to make changes to the calendar. A regular on the F1 schedule, the latest configuration of the world-famous Eifel circuit has played host to international sportscar racing since its opening in 1984. On-track action for the WEC teams runs from the 28th to 30th of August with the race starting 13.00 local German time. Note 104 Relation of Season-average Lap Speed to Power and Weight, 1993 – 1994 Power relation During 1993 informed opinion* was that the Renault RS3/4 engines in the Williams FW15C had an average of 50 HP more than the Ford-Cosworth HB5/6 units in the main rivals, the McLaren MP4/8 and the Benetton B193. All these cars had active suspension and various electronic “driver aids”. This provided an opportunity to compare Lap Speed differences with Power difference. Over the 1993 season the Lap Speed differences at each race in Qualification were as follows, the Williams best speed being compared with the best Ford-powered figure:- *Of the late Brian Lovell, former Managing Director of Weslake Developments. Lap Speed %age lower than Williams Race No. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 McLaren [0.1] 2.3 2.4 2.4 Benetton 2.1 2.2 2.2 0.8 2.3 Race No. 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 McLaren 1.8 1.4 [0.1] [-0.6] Benetton 1.8 0.8 0.8 1.4 The [bracketed] entries were discarded: Race 1 at Kyalami by Senna being “too good to be true” and the Benetton figure used; Races 15 and 16 because by then Prost driving the Williams had clinched his 4th Championship at the 14th race and announced his retirement would come at the end of the season. He simply did not need to try as hard as before. The No.2 Williams driver, Damon Hill, had not raced at either of the last 2 circuits (Suzuka and Adelaide) and spun in Qualification at both of them.

March 1980 MOTOR SPORT Founded in the year nineteen twenty-four offices would be possible is something to be discussed. The point is that two-tier control of motoring sport is vital and should take place quickly. Note that there is no suggestion whatsoever that the RAC, which controls British motoring sport with the approval of the Government, should be overthrown; only that it must be restrained from exploiting, knowingly or inadvertently, those Clubs and their hundreds of members which can less-well than the Big Battalions afford to pay ever- increasing permit and licensing fees. That the situation, in a world of galloping inflation and rising petrol costs, has become desperate, is evident when you realise that the Motor Cycling Club, the oldest sporting Motor Club in this country, which continues to organise its classic long-distance trials dating back to 1908, had to pay more in Ministry-of-Transport Authorisation-Fees to run last year’s Land’s End Trial than the RAC did to hold the sponsored International RAC Rally — something to do with the MCC having more entrants who cover a bigger mileage. It is understandable that the Forestry Commission has to charge for the alleged wear-and-tear that the MATTERS OF MOMENT passage of fast-moving rally cars cause to its forest tracks and for spectator protection (ropes and whistles), ■ EXPLOITATION IS A DIRTY WORD! but it is not clear to us why a Government Department should charge the MCC for competitions which use “Man’s rich with little, were his judgement true; public roads, with every competitor paying his or her Nature is frugal, and her wants are few; These few normal road-licence duty.

2011 BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX Pirelli rounds off a remarkable debut season with two new tyres What’s the story? Milan, November 21, 2011 – After 18 races and 5488 kilometres so far, Pirelli will round off a remarkable season – characterised by the most overtaking in the 61-year history of the Formula One World Championship – at the iconic Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo. It’s a venue that has produced plenty of dramatic races in the past, but now Pirelli is concentrating more on the future, with two new tyre compounds making their debut at the race. During Friday’s two free practice sessions, drivers will have two extra sets of an experimental hard tyre, which has already been tested by Lucas di Grassi and Pirelli’s Toyota TF109 car in private tests at Jerez and Barcelona this year. This tyre is considerably softer than the current hard. The results will be fed back to Pirelli’s engineers as they prepare for the 2012 season, just as was the case during the free practice sessions in Abu Dhabi, where an experimental soft tyre was tried out. For the race itself the P Zero Yellow soft and P Zero White medium tyres have been nominated. However, the soft tyre that has been nominated is another new compound, which was tested by the teams during the young driver test at Abu Dhabi last week and during Friday free practice at the Nurburgring. Interlagos is well known for its passionate fans, sweeping elevation changes and anti-clockwise layout. One of the key points of the circuit for both the drivers and the tyres is the final sequence of corners from turn 10 onwards, which effectively amounts to one very long left-hand bend – putting plenty of energy through the tyres and also the drivers’ necks.

PORSCHE EXPERIENCE STORIES 2020 EDITION DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE PERFORMANCE IN THE ARCTIC CIRCLE With the Taycan on snow and ice LEGENDARY TRACK DESIGN Pure driving excitement on the Ardennes rollercoaster BREATHTAKING VIEWS From Reykjavík to Snæfellsjökull volcano DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE EDITORIAL Dear reader, The fascination of Porsche is based on a legendary dra design: the yline. The iconic silhouette has been modied, sharpened and perfected for each model, but has always remained distinctive. It has won races. And has set millions of hearts racing. However, it has never been an end in itself. Ferdinand Porsche himself formulated the guiding principle – form follows function. Until this day, no line has been le to chance. Everything has been thought through down to the nest detail and tested a thousand times. For minimal air resistance. High performance. And maximum attraction. This is why the motto of this Porsche Experience Magazine is ‘Design and Performance’. A symbiosis that can be discovered and enjoyed all over the world – ideally with a Porsche. With the new Taycan, for example – on the Porsche Ice Experience in the high north of Finland. Or as part of a Porsche Travel Experience through Iceland. In the capital Reykjavík, the avant-garde Harpa concert hall presents a unique combination of mo- dern architecture, rugged volcanic landscape and an outstanding sound experience. Namibia surprises visitors with attractions such as a glass lodge in the heart of a red desert, topped with unforgettable panoramas. The Porsche Track Experience focuses in particular on the track layout of legendary circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans, taking sports car excitement to the limit.
