Well before 9/11, however, a number of other regional developments have thoroughly rocked the Southern Asian region. Their impact has long been felt worldwide. To this day, a coalition of international troops is battling the Taliban in Afghanistan, but now also Islamic State, a relative newcomer on the South Asian stage. In Pakistan, several full-scale army operations have been launched against the Pakistani Taliban. These deep-cutting, often dramatic events have resulted in a huge turn-out in government policy papers, institutional research reports, international conferences and what have you. In our times, these countries have seldom been given closer international scrutiny. Unfortunately, reading and analysing it all, next to ‘digesting’ other relevant publications, is practically impossible. As a public service, but also in an attempt to create a helpful broad overview and to provide some sort of scientific data base, every year we put together a list of as many research reports as we have been and are able to trace. We have experienced that regular institutional libraries (universities, ministries, research institutes, think tanks) are usually not able to provide all the source materials one is searching for. All titles mentioned below are in our possession, either on paper or digital.
