Well done boys and good luck for game on the weekend. ROUND SEVEN WRAP UP Altona Juniors had mixed fortunes in round six winning 4 out of a possible 10 games that were played for premiership points. Congratulations to our U`16A, U`16C, U`12A and 9369 9009 U`11A teams who were all victorious and better luck this weekend for the rest of our teams. www.blsprinting.biz Special mention goes out to the U’9 and U’10 teams who kick the dew off the ground for the older kids every Sunday. Club Umpires Course The club umpires course that was scheduled for Monday 12th May will now be held on Monday 19th May at Scovell Reserve, Maidstone. All clubs are required to send new club umpires. Clubs are encouraged to send umpires who haven’t participated in a club umpires course recently to update their skills. The course will commence at 6.15pm sharp. The area bearing the family name and currently known as Cherry Lake appears in early publications simply as Truganina Swamp or Cherry Swamp. !1 NEWSLETTER NUMBER 54 FEBRUARY 2019 In the Werribee Shire Banner April 27,1927 P4,a letter to the Werribee Shire Council from Altona Council stated in part that “the area would be converted to a large artificial lake”,this was seeking to encourage visitors and residents to the area, this received a response that the “proposed lake was a farce’. The area now controlled by Melbourne Water, formerly known as Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW),indicates that the Truganina Swamp was a terminal swamp with no clearly defined outlet to the Bay, and is fed by the waters of Laverton Creek. Historically during flood periods when the capacity of the swamp was exceeded waters would spread across local streets and reserves towards Port Phillip Bay, flooding large areas of local developed land,(such an event occurred in January 1963).
