Netball Nsw Netball Nsw Overview EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER COMMERCIAL & MARKETING NETBALL NSW NETBALL NSW OVERVIEW Netball NSW is the peak state sporting organisation responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of netball throughout New South Wales and is affiliated to Netball Australia. Netball is proudly the number one sport for women and girls in Australia and Netball NSW must continue to innovate to retain this position across the State. The Netball NSW Board and Senior Management Team has an ambitious vision for the sport and aims to enhance the community and the game to grow and thrive, transforming lives through netball. The proud home of the NSW Swifts and GIANTS Netball, Netball NSW also provides the framework for over 115,000 registered members and over 150,000 total participants to enjoy netball at all levels of performance throughout New South Wales. Netball continues to grow both on and off the court and much of this success can be attributed to the wide range of programs, facilities and services Netball NSW offers to its members and participants, from the grassroots through to the elite and professional level. Netball NSW has a proud history of elite netball teams and athletes’ performances in national and international competition. Over 300 athletes have proudly represented NSW in elite competition since the inception of the national netball league in 1997 and then the ANZ Championship and Suncorp Super Netball (SSN). SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL – THE GIANTS AND THE SWIFTS 2017 began a new chapter in Australian Netball history with the introduction of the Suncorp Super Netball, the top Australian domestic competition which expanded Netball NSW to two elite teams; the NSW Swifts and GIANTS Netball. GIANTS Netball is owned and operated by Netball NSW, in a strategic alliance with GWS GIANTS (AFL). GIANTS Netball was formed on the basis of providing more opportunities for the members in NSW, including: to represent their state and club at netball’s highest domestic level; and provide opportunities for fans and members to watch the world’s best netballers live in action. The Giants have quickly developed a strong position in the competitive NSW sporting landscape already competing in Finals and enjoying excellent membership and drawing great crowds to Qudos Bank Arena. NSW Swifts have a long and proud history representing NSW since 2007. They have multiple grand final appearances and are the current Suncorp Super Netball Premiers after defying the odds to register a thumping 64-47 Grand Final victory over the Sunshine Coast Lightning in September 2019. The Swifts were lauded for a young roster boasting some of internationals netball’s most promising players and the Premiership was secured with a scintillating brand of Netball. Both GIANTS Netball and NSW Swifts are committed to being strong role models for young netballers around NSW, Australia and the world, and for representing their teams to the best of their ability. The clubs strive to be a competitive force in every year of the league and be a top four team each and every season and compete for the SSN title. EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER COMMERCIAL & MARKETING The Executive General Manager Commercial & Marketing is responsible for defining and leading the strategy and execution of initiatives to generate commercial revenue and growth across all departments of Netball NSW. Reporting to the CEO, the role will provide overarching direction and have tactical accountabilities across all business development activity. This will include; commercial partnerships, an integrated marketing & digital program, and all commercial and marketing strategy including merchandise and membership. The role will need to foster and maintain key partner and stakeholder relations, both internally and externally. The ability to provide overall management and strong, collaborative leadership across all business areas is crucial. In addition, this role will play an integral part in ensuring commercial integration between Netball NSW and the two NSW Suncorp Super Netball teams. REPORTING STRUCTURE This is a new role within the Senior Leadership team and will be a key role in the Netball NSW executive team. Reporting to the CEO the role will manage a Corporate Partnerships Manager and a Marketing & Fan Activations Manager but will also have significant indirect ownerships of all external consumer and commercial activities.     Suncorp Super Netball Launches Super Shot Rules Trial The Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) league has announced the introduction of the two-goal Super Shot for the 2020 season from the 1st August. The Super Shot will provide goal attacks and goal shooters the opportunity to score two goals by shooting from a 1.9 metre designated zone within the goal circle and will be active in the final five minutes of each quarter, providing a blend of the traditional game with the new. The decision was made by the Super Netball Limited, the league commission established by Netball Australia to help innovate and grow the commercial opportunities within the SSN and is fully endorsed by Netball Australia. The Suncorp Super Shot is one of three new rules being introduced into the league for 2020. The Super Shot will only be used in the SSN league and all other Netball in Australia, including international matches, will continue to adhere to the International Netball Federation (INF) Rules of Netball. As stated in the INF Rules of Netball handbook, ‘Variations to the Rules may be made for matches that are not for international play. The extent of these variations will depend on the level of competition. Decisions regarding variations will normally be made by the controlling authority for the competition.’ Liz Nicholl, CBE, INF President comments, “The INF is really excited to see Netball Australia trialling new rules for their Suncorp League this season.     Independent Director – TTNL Limited (known as the ANZ Championship) About the ANZ Championship The ANZ Championship was launched in 2008 as a successor to the Commonwealth Bank Trophy in Australia and the National Bank Cup in New Zealand. The competition is administered by TTNL Limited, a company incorporated in New Zealand, and is a joint venture between the netball governing bodies of both countries. The ANZ Championship is the premier netball league in Australia and New Zealand. It is contested by ten teams, five from Australia and five from New Zealand under guidance from their respective National Associations. The competition is currently held annually between April and July, comprising 69 matches played over 17 weeks including the finals series The ANZ Championship has seen netball become a semi-professional sport in both countries, with increased media and spectators.
