GAP Experience is the funky, rocking, dancing, soulful, gospel, and country inspired mega band brought to life by the original Gap Band players. The music flows through their veins – united on the stage again – to bring back the funk via the original and unique sound that fans have always known and loved. This is not a tribute band – it is the core group of players who wrote, recorded, and toured the World originally as The Gap Band. The amazing hits such as “Outstanding”, “Yearning For Your Love”, “All of My Love”, “Burn Rubber On Me”, “You Dropped a Bomb On Me”, and “Early In The Morning” – are all performed live, loud, and with a lot of love. Musical Director, Keyboardist, Singer, and Trombone player, Oliver Scott first introduced his musical talents as a player for The Gap Band in May of 1979. His creative pen wrote "Yearning For Your Love" as well as many other album cuts for the group. The performance of his song from The Gap Band V album, “Where Are We Going”, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1984 for Best R&B Instrumental Performance. As a young man, Oliver Scott wrote songs and performed numerous nightclub dates regionally. In 1977 he and his brothers formed the band Bloodline and later he joined The Gap Band. In 1986, he dedicated his life and his music to his Christian faith and has written and produced five solo Gospel projects, three Gospel albums with the church he served – and has written, produced, and shared the stage with other Gospel artists. He serves as the Pastor of Worship at Sienna Ranch Baptist Church in Missouri City, Texas. Oliver has re-joined with other Gap Band members to organize GAP Experience – bringing back the sound that fans love. Guitarist Jimi Macon, an original Gap Band player from 1974 continues onward with his professional musical legacy. He had moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to join the group, and shortly thereafter, traveled with the band to California to connect with the record companies. Jimi was there as the band secured recording contracts with A&M Records and Tattoo Records (a subsidiary of RCA). In 1977, The Gap Band released their first album Out of the Blue. Jimi has recorded on all of The Gap Band albums produced and his credits include Gap Band V: Jammin’ (1983), The Gap Band 8 (1987), and Straight from the Heart (1988). Jimi is often recognized from his appearances with the band on television programs such as American Bandstand, Soul Train, and The American Music Awards. In addition to Jimi's performances with The Gap Band, he has also worked with James Brown, Natalie Cole, Lou Rawls, Rufus, Bobby Womack, Solomon Burke, The Isley Brothers, Sly Stone, The Temptations, CeCe Winans, Johnny Taylor, and Kool & The Gang. Professional Drummer, Raymond James Calhoun became an original Gap Band player in 1979 after spending two years with The Manhattan’s and one year with Peaches and Herb. For over 33 years Raymond has contributed his on-stage presence and percussion to The Gap Band performances around the World. As a prolific Producer and Songwriter as well, Raymond wrote “Outstanding”, “All of My Love”, “I Found My Baby”, “Sweeter Than Candy”, “You Told Me That”, and many more. Raymond’s composition, “Outstanding” is one of The Gap Band’s signature songs which reached #1 on the U.S. R&B Singles Chart in 1983 and #51 on the Billboard Hot 100. To Raymond’s credit as the songwriter, “Outstanding” remains one of the most sampled songs in hip-hop history and has been used by over 150 artists ranging from Madonna to Kyle Minogue, Usher, R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg, Puff Daddy, Nas, Spice Girls, Dr. Dre, George Michael, Christina Aguilera, and many others. Two of the band’s albums on which Raymond is credited; The Gap Band III and The Gap Band IV achieved Platinum status. Raymond has also shared stages with great acts such as The Dazz Band, Stephanie Mills, James Ingram, Yarborough & Peoples, The Spinners, Anita Baker, EnVogue, and countless others. He has toured and worked with his close friend, Tito Jackson, of the legendary Jackson 5. Guitarist, Pianist, and Vocalist, Terry Scott is another original Gap Band player known for his dynamic guitar contributions. Having joined The Gap Band in 1992, Terry has toured the World and his work is credited on some of their more recent albums. Since the 1980's, Terry has also enjoyed success as a solo artist, from his self-titled LP Terry Scott on Electra Asylum Records to his current contemporary jazz single “Nirvana”. In addition to working as a touring musician with The Gap Band, he also appeared with Eddie Hazel (Parliament-Funkadelic), Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), Wilson Pickett, New Birth, Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards (The Temptations), and The Isley Brothers. Terry has also played bass with Jamie Bernstein at the Kennedy 1200 Lida St. • Pasadena, CA 91103 Office: (626)584-8110 • Mobile: (213)709-4909 • Fax: (626)584-8122 www.selakentertainment.com Center during a show honoring her father, composer Leonard Bernstein. University of Pittsburgh, 2015 Acoustic metamaterials (phononic crystals) have received much recent attention. Over time, several efforts were proposed to improve the structure in order to enlarge the band gap, lower the band gap frequency, and/or generate greater attenuation of vibration. In this document, a novel two dimensional acoustic metamaterial with Coated Double Hybrid Lattice (CDHL) is proposed. The structure makes use of both the Bragg Scattering Theorem and the Local Resonance Theorem. In the simulation, both a lower frequency band gap and a higher frequency band gap are obtained. According to the modal analysis and phase spectrum analysis, it is proved that the lower frequency band gap is due to local resonance between the double lead cores and the rubber coating.

  • The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia
The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia by Sandra C Zichermann A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education Sociology in Education Ontario Institute for Studies in Education University of Toronto © Copyright by Sandra C Zichermann 2013 The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia Sandra C Zichermann Doctor of Education Sociology in Education University of Toronto 2013 Abstract This thesis investigates the rise of the cultures and music of hip-hop and rap in the West and its effects on its female listeners and fans, especially those in academia. The thesis consists of two parts. First I conducted a content analysis of 95 lyrics from the book, Hip-Hop & Rap: Complete Lyrics for 175 Songs (Spence, 2003). The songs I analyzed were performed by male artists whose lyrics repeated misogynist and sexist messages. Second, I conducted a focus group with young female university students who self-identify as fans of hip-hop and/or rap music. In consultation with my former thesis supervisor, I selected women enrolled in interdisciplinary programmes focused on gender and race because they are equipped with an academic understanding of the potential damage or negative effects of anti-female or negative political messaging in popular music. My study suggests that the impact of hip-hop and rap music on young women is both positive and negative, creating an overarching feeling of complexity for some young female listeners who enjoy music that is infused with some lyrical messages they revile.
