Classroom Expectations I am your instructor, not your parent or your boss. You are an adult and expected to act like and adult and make adult decisions while in my classroom. I will give you 100% of my teaching capabilities to ensure that you learn all the course material and would expect that in return you will respect my efforts by following these few simple rules: My classes are informal. I want you to be relaxed and enjoy the experience. If I speak too fast, ask me to slow down. If I speak to soft, ask me to speak up. If I am standing in the way of the screen, ask me to move. Ask all the questions you want. It is important to me that you know all the material that you want to know. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I will find someone who does. If you missed something during my lecture or demonstration because you are instant messaging, surfing the internet or texting on your phone, please do not disrespect me or your classmates by asking me to repeat myself during class. Please set your cell phone to vibrate. If it is necessary for you to take an incoming call, please quietly leave the classroom and take your call in the hallway. You do not need to ask if it ok to take a call. Use of cellular phones during exams is strictly prohibited. It is the policy of the College not to have food or beverages in the computer labs. Don’t make me the bad guy by having to ask you not to bring those items into the classroom. Page 3 of 6 BCA 121-21 Word Processing Spring, 2012 Computer Use It is expected that students will participate by the use of the computer during class periods to improve understanding of the instruction. Surfing the internet, and socializing (My Space, Facebook, IM) during lecture periods are not permitted as excessive keyboarding and screen images can be disruptive and distracting to those around you. Please be considerate of your neighbor. Office Hours I do not have any office on campus but would be willing to meet a student before class starts or stay after class by appointment. College Closing / Delays Morning classes are canceled by 6am. Evening classes are canceled by 3pm. Cancelation of day classes does not necessarily means that evening classes are canceled. Check with local television and radio stations. You may also phone the closing line 755-4576 or check the college web site. The following radio and television stations broadcast closing information: Channels WCSH, WMTW, WGME, WPME and radio stations WPOR, WOXO, WGAN, WKTJ, WLAM, WBLM, and WMEK If the instructor needs to unexpectedly cancel class for any reason, every effort will be made to contact you via the information you provide. Late homework will be accepted but must be submitted to me electronically and will result in a loss of 1/3 of the grade per day late for that particular homework assignment. On the third day of being late the grade will result in no credit for that assignment. If you are having a problem with your e-mail and cannot submit your assignment, you need to call me to let me know you are having a problem or you will receive no credit for the late homework.
