(AIA) Constitution, a regular meeting of the Executive Board was held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at the AIA office located at 7007 North 18th Street in Phoenix, Arizona. CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS On a motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Executive Board approved the following consent agenda items: AIA Lifetime Passes Rick Anderson Deer Valley 28 years David Bond Douglas 27 years Daniel Dunn Gilbert 28 years Danny Hernandez Buckeye Retired Hank Matz Rincon Retired Lee Dusty Sullivan Youngker 29 years Page 2 of 21 Executive Board Minutes October 18, 2010 CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS – Cont’d Requests For AIA Sanction / Intrastate And Interstate Activities – 2010-2011 Master Calendar Addendum In accordance with Article 10, Section 10.1 of the AIA Bylaws, the Executive Board approved the sanction requests for the intrastate and interstate activities reflected in the 2010-2011 Master Calendar. The master calendar is posted online at http://www.aiaonline.org/calendar/?id=5. The Master Calendar, which is prepared by the AIA for its member schools, reflects activities (events) that have been sanctioned by the AIA Executive Board. It is the responsibility of each member school to limit its participation in these sanctioned activities to the maximum number of contests set forth in the AIA Bylaws. Non-Sanctioned Activities – 2010-2011 Informational Calendar Addendum The Executive Board accepted the calendar placement requests for the non- sanctioned activities reflected in the 2010-2011 Informational Calendar. The Informational Calendar, which is prepared by the AIA as a convenience for its member schools, reflects non-sanctioned activities, which do not fall under AIA jurisdiction. The Informational Calendar is posted online at http://www.aiaonline.org/calendar/?id=2. Cancellation Requests – Varsity Contests and/or Programs In accordance with Article 11, Section 11.4, Paragraph 11.4.3, Subparagraph 11.4.3.1 of the AIA Bylaws, the Executive Board approved the following cancellation request for a varsity program that could have a bearing on regional or state playoffs: Clifton (1A) All Programs – School Closed 9/16/10 Palo Verde (4A) Varsity Girls’ Golf Program Verrado (4A) Varsity Swim/Dive Contest with Desert Edge & Raymond Kellis on 9/30/10 Thunderbird Adventist (1A) Remaining Varsity Soccer Games Verde Valley (1A) Remaining Girls’ Varsity Soccer Games Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy (Assoc) – Withdrew from Membership Page 3 of 21 Executive Board Minutes October 18, 2010 CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS – Cont’d Cancellation Requests – Varsity Contests and/or Programs – (Cont’d) Item 2. (d) (4) Pulled for separate consideration South Pointe (3A) Remaining (5) Varsity Football Contests On a motion duly made, seconded and carried, the Executive Board approved the following Determination: DETERMINATION: Cancellation of Program within Season If a school cancels a program after the beginning of the season of sport, those games will be marked as forfeit wins for the teams which they would have been competing against. The member school that is receiving the forfeit win may play another game against another member school, but that game will not count for either school for purposes of the power rankings. (Ex. On a motion duly made, seconded and carried, the Board directed staff to again send letters notifying those schools that if they are not in contact with the AIA on or before November 1, 2010, their membership will be suspended until further notice. Page 4 of 21 Executive Board Minutes October 18, 2010 LEGAL COUNSEL REPORT On a motion duly made, seconded and carried, President Riley, in accordance with Article 6, Section 6.3, Paragraph 6.3.3, Subparagraph 6.3.3.2 of the AIA Constitution, called for the following Executive Sessions to receive report from legal counsel: 9 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. 9 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. 9 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. DUE PROCESS APPEAL OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION – CESAR CHAVEZ HIGH SCHOOL The following representatives entered the meeting and left upon completion of their presentation: Scott Gayman, Principal Nora Gutierrez, Assistant Superintendent Craig Pletanik, Community Relations Shelley Cutts, Attorney On August 23, 2010, the Executive Board, in accordance with Article 16, Section 16.1 of the AIA Bylaws, placed the Cesar Chavez High School Football Program on Probation for one year – 8/23/10-8/23/11. On September 16, 2010, the Executive Board Tabled the report, at the request of legal counsel for Cesar Chavez High School due to her travel conflict. In accordance with the due process provisions of Article 16, Section 16.4, Paragraph 16.4.5 of the AIA Bylaws, Cesar Chavez High School submitted an appeal for reconsideration of the probation sanction against the Cesar Chavez Football Program. Executive Board Action The Executive Board reaffirmed that the Cesar Chavez Football Program will remain on Probation for one year – 8/23/10-8/23/11 and is requesting at a minimum the following: • Evidence that staff has and will continue to in-service their entire coaching staff, volunteers, boosters, and all others having contact with transfer students with regards to recruiting and that all understand the AIA Bylaws. • Documentation showing current 520 Form compliance of all transfer players on current football roster. • Written procedures with current and future corrective actions related to preventing any and all further rule violations with regards to the transfer process and use of the 520/530 forms. Items are to be provided on or before October 29, 2010 prior to 12:00 p.m. The information provided will be distributed to the Executive Board. A special session of the Board to consider this information and possible rescinding of the Probation status will take place at 8:30 a.m. on November 1, 2010. Page 5 of 21 Executive Board Minutes October 18, 2010 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT Discussion was held regarding the reconfiguration and tournament timeline update. Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Bolitho explained the following: • October 1st Enrollment – used to determine 2011-2013 Conference Placements. • Divisions/Sections – Division placement appeals are due Monday, October 25th by 3:00 p.m. Those appeals are to be directed to Brian Bolitho at [email protected]. Refer to AIA website www.aiaonline.org for additional information. • Casa Grande - concern with Oct. 1 enrollment figure. Current enrollment is 1957, but next year will drop to 1650 due to the fact that Vista Grande will have all 4 levels of classes. On a motion duly made, seconded and carried, the Board approved altering the projected enrollment count for Casa Grande to 1650 for their new Oct. 1 enrollment figure. • Williams Field requested reconsideration of their current projected enrollment figure.

A total of 103schools responded, and each answer was tabulated by total number and then by percentage. Findings showed that (1) speech and drama courses arenot required, are often considered as electives, and assume alow-status role in many school curricula; (2)the most frequently cited reason for lack of participation in speech and drama activities waslack of interest;(3) there is a marked improvement in teacher qualification since 1963; and (4) many schools (39) not offering speech and drama courses plan to include them in the curriculumin the near future, and many other schools expect to improve and expand existing courses and activities.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 1/28/18 NFL NAMES ROBERT GARRETT OF CRENSHAW HIGH SCHOOL DON SHULA NFL HIGH SCHOOL COACH OF THE YEAR The NFL and Los Angeles Chargers announced today that head football coach ROBERT GARRETT of Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, Calif. is the 2017 Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year. The award, named for the winningest coach in NFL history, was created to honor exemplary high school football coaches for their character and integrity, leadership and dedication to the community, commitment to player health and safety and on-field success. The announcement was made during the 2018 Pro Bowl on ESPN. Nominees for the Don Shula Award from all 32 clubs were invited and recognized in special ways during the NFL’s week-long celebration of football at the Pro Bowl in Orlando. Nominated by the Los Angeles Chargers, Coach Garrett was one of two high school football coaches selected as finalists from a group of coaches nominated by NFL teams. As the national Don Shula Award Winner, Coach Garrett will receive $25,000 from the NFL Foundation, $15,000 of which will go to his high school’s football program. He will be a guest of the NFL during Super Bowl LII and walk the red carpet at NFL Honors, a two-hour primetime awards special to air nationally on Feb. 3, the eve of Super Bowl LII, at 9 PM (ET and PT) on NBC. NFL Honors will be taped earlier that evening at Northrop at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
