Box 501, Somersville, CT USA 06072 MIKE BUGAJ [email protected] ES SEASON – A VERY SLOW START. Yes it’s July and yes it’s E-skip season. Somebody pinch me. I hope the second half turns out better than the first part because I don’t think you’ll find anyone who is really happy with it. Most of the openings here were just out of reach of us. Many struggled to move into FM and when they did, it was just for a few minutes. But – there were a few magic moments. Rob Ross hit the jackpot twice on May 31st when he logged XHCM 88.9 in Mexico City (1927mi) and XHOCA 89.7 Oaxaca, Mexico (2004 mi). Jeff Falconer caught double hop Es on FM from Mexico City into Ontario (1954 mi). Later that evening he also heard Cayman Islands at 1675 mi. And here’s one more great log. On June 10 Steve Walko (K3PHL) heard KQRK 92.3 in Ronan, ID at 1972 mi). And here is one more I almost forgot. It’s Russ Edmunds reception of XHGEO 91.5 Guadalajara, MX on May 31st. So, the quantity may not have been there but the quality was. Just ask those four guys. Meanwhile, down in the land “down under”, we have reports on the WTFDA Forums of at least four dates of intense winter E-skip (June 6,7,10,14) by Geoff, an FM Dxer in Numerella, NSW, Australia. We will try to include some of his loggings in this issue. One beneficiary of skip so far this summer is the DXer in the Northwest. Some years they get practically nothing in the way TV and FM DX but this season they’ve done fairly well. In an area not known for tropo, finally they’ve been able to increase their totals. MEMBERS AND MORE STUFF This time around we have all renewals. Dues received from the period of 5/16 through 6/14 from Dan Oglethorpe (LA), Fritze Prentice (AR), Michael Beu (TX), Richard Allen (OK), Jay Novello (NC), Jerry Bond (NY), Owen Wood (NY), James Montgomery (IN), Sheryl Paskiewicz (WI), Rick Lucas (NY), Benjamin Greenlaw (ME), Steve French (MN), Fred Laun (MD), John Griffiths (ON), Edward Ritchie (WI), Peter Giacopelli (NY), Stephen Naetzker (AZ), Mike Glass (IN), Joe Esser (NJ), Jeff Kruszka (TX), Stan Weisbeck (WA) and Al Tobia (CA). Thank you all for staying with the club and we really mean that. And a big thanks to those who switched over to the eVUD, if not reluctantly. 18TH ANNUAL MADISON-MILWAUKEE GTG The 18th annual Madison-Milwaukee Get-Together will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2011, beginning at 1 p.m. This year’s event is in the Milwaukee area, hosted by Tim Noonan and his family in south suburban Oak Creek. It is an all-band event, and anyone interested in the radio hobby is welcome. For more information, contact Tim at [email protected] or 414 762-2702. AND… We’ve had a couple of requests to discontinue 2 column printing in the eVUD and it sounds like a good idea. The only negative right now is that we still have paper VUDs to deliver and we may not be able to convert 100% if the result is overly large paper VUDs. As we continue to transfer into an eZine only we’ll be able to do things we never could do with the paper VUD. Stay tuned. There’s more member input coming up in this ussue, so find out what other WTFDA members think. CU next month. -Mike 3 Douglas E.
