The festival, put on each year by the Surry County Cooperative Extension, is designed to provide a chance for families to learn more about agriculture and farming and its role in daily life. “It’s going to be awe- some. I’m so excited about it,” said Joanna Radford, extension agent who is orga- nizing the event. Once again there will be plenty of activities for children during the event including rides, games and other activities. There will be a 4-H activity area for kids and a train ride made of barrels to take kids around MORGAN WALL/THE NEWS the park. Rodney Harrison1 INTRODUCTION On May 2, 2012, Junior Seau, one of the most talented and feared linebackers ever to play in the National Football League (NFL), died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.2 Seau was only 43 years old and left behind three teenaged children.3 Less than a year later, in January of 2013, Seau’s family sued the NFL after tissue samples from Seau’s donated4 brain showed that he was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), “a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head hits and brain trauma.”5 The Seau family * Third-year law student at Southern Illinois University. The Gathering, named from the hymn “Shall We Gather at the River?” which will be sung at the event. Kevin Harrison, pastor of Victori- ous Life Church and lead administrator of the Gathering, said he hopes the event will provide a sense of unity. “This is not just about having a service,” Har- rison said. “It’s the genesis of a movement of unity. We see the division in our world.
