To: NEWSCASTALLSTAFF Subject: Tremendous job- 4pm rocked

Congrats to Producer, Jen Newman and anchor Louise Schiavone for a thorough and beautifully handled live shot with Phil Ewing at 4pm. This was NPR's first broadcast take on the Attorney General's summation of the Mueller report. We dedicated the entire front section to the interview- Louise asked the exact questions that were necessary and Phil handled himself with aplomb as well.

I am told that upon the conclusion of that 3-minute segment, applause literally broke out in the newsroom.

I can also tell you that given the timing of things, our head of News, Nancy Barnes made clear that Newscast was to get the first shot at this.
