ANNUAL LEAVE/PAID TIME OFF (PTO)

Annual leave/PTO is provided for all regular employees with a work commitment of half-time (20 hours/week) or more. Annual leave/PTO may be used for , , bereavement or other personal leave. Leave should be requested in writing and approved in advance by your section . Requests should be submitted as far in advance as possible, but should not exceed six months in advance. In the case of illness or other unscheduled absence or tardiness, the supervisor should be notified as soon as possible at the start of each work day missed. Hotels, flights, etc., should not be booked until your request for time off has been approved.

A maximum of ten (10) days annual leave may be carried over to the next calendar year. Annual leave in excess of ten (10) days at year-end will be forfeited. Should there be any unauthorized leave hours in a pay period, the amount of annual leave will be reduced accordingly. Leave without pay may be granted in special circumstances after all annual leave has been exhausted. PTO should be scheduled appropriately throughout the year, as it may not be possible to grant PTO if the office cannot be adequately covered at all times. It is your responsibility to manage your PTO.

Regular employees with a work commitment of half-time or more will earn and accrue annual leave/PTO based on length of service as outlined below, at an equivalent to their percentage of work commitment. Employees who have completed the 90-day orientation period will be paid for all accrued, unused leave upon termination of , providing that the proper notice has been given. Leave will not accrue after the last day worked. Requests for leave may be obtained from your section supervisor. Vacation plans should never be made before leave is approved.
