Position Summary Directs, manages and participates in all aspects of the Acquisitions/Serials department. Responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to, overseeing the book, serial and electronic resource ordering process, taking inventory of all orders upon arrival, and ensuring that the correct funds are used in the payment process. This position will also monitor fund balances and make recommendations for re-allocation of funds when appropriate. Will supervise non-exempt staff members.

Position Specific Responsibilities 1. Direct, manage, and participate in all aspect of the Acquisitions/Serials Department. 2. As functional expert in Sierra Acquisitions/Serials modules will implements systems and procedures to enhance effective management of the department. 3. Monitor books budget balances and subscriptions, book orders and memberships. 4. Ensure the timely claiming of late periodicals and monographic orders. 5. Responsible for bibliographic control of order and serial records in the online system. 6. Supervises and trains support staff. 7. Collects and organizes relevant statistics from each unit in the department. 8. Monitor serial prices and vendor response time; negotiate prices for library materials; maintain good relations with publishers and vendors. 9. Coordinate cooperative Acquisition/Serials projects and works with staff to develop techniques to make better use of Sierra modules. 10. Oversee assignment of vendors for acquisition of monographs, serials, and electronic resources. 11. Manage vendor licenses and access to electronic information resources. 12. Make appropriate budget allocations from print serials to electronic serials. 13. Participate in appropriate professional organizations and in professional development activities to continuously update knowledge and experience.

Experience/Qualifications  Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a or an is required. Course work or prior experience with legal materials preferred. Supervisory experience is required.  Experience with Innovative Interfaces Acquisitions/Serials system and familiarity with AACR2. Experience with LC Subject Headings and LC Classification is preferred. Experience with Gobi/YBP web-based acquisitions preferred. Requires a familiarity with internet-based products and various access methods. An understanding of network capabilities, word-processing and PCs in general. Experience in the use of Innovative Interfaces Acquisitions/Serials system and electronic invoicing programs is essential. Must have significant experience in providing bibliographic access to and control of a wide range of law materials.  Knowledge of highly developed automated law library acquisitions/serials systems. In-depth knowledge of the law book trade, including foreign and international vendors. Familiarity with non-book formats is highly desirable. Knowledge of current library trends in electronic resources and issues involved in providing bibliographic and electronic access.  Ability to work with minimum supervision and to train and supervise paraprofessionals and student workers. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to set priorities and organize information effectively.

Required Education Typically a Master’s Degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program, or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of changes related to Business librarianship.
