Safety Guidelines • Keep machine’s cords out of the traffic path to prevent others from tripping. • Keep machine’s cords untangled. • Sew at a slow speed when learning how to use the machine. • When sewing, place your fingers to either side of the presser foot, not directly in front of or near the needle. • Do not lean your face too close to when stitching in case the needle breaks. Sewing Machine Safety Guidelines • Remove pins as you come to them. Do NOT over pins. • When sewing, allow the feed dogs to move the fabric through the machine. Forcing or pulling the fabric through the machine may cause the needle to break. • Remove your foot from the speed control and place it on the floor when you are not sewing. • When disconnecting the sewing machine, do not jerk the cord as this can cause the cord to become worn or frayed. Instead, pull on the plug from the wall outlet. Ironing Safety Guidelines

• Do not touch a hot iron except on the handle. Use the controls to see if the iron is on. • Locate the iron’s cord so that the iron will not be accidentally pulled off the ironing board. • Rest the iron on its heel when not in use. • In class, turn iron off when finished.
