Phyllis is visiting every Diocese in Ireland (12 in total) during the 1877 – 2017 month of May and Lynne is joining her on the majority of these occasions. Full coverage of these visits will be covered in the 13 Decades of Love & Service next edition of Focus, our All Ireland magazine, as well as on the Mothers’ Union website – www.mothersunion.ie

Our service coincided with the Centenary Celebrations of Seapatrick’s Mothers’ Union Branch so it was a doubly special day and even more so to have the Worldwide President give the address.

The Branch Members had created wonderful floral displays in each of the Church windows, depicting the history of the Branch, the Aim and Objects of Mothers’ Union and the many aspects of the work carried out in the Diocese of Down and Dromore and throughout Ireland. Gifts were presented by some of the choristers and Alan Dunn said a few words, observing that it seemed like no time at all since we had September 3 Nanette McCoy Carol Gordon taken a new organist to our hearts an d into our lives and had had to say goodbye, and here we were again – doing it all over again! A packed hall after the service saw further presentations by the vestry, on behalf of all of us at St. Gall’s. Following her last services at the organ on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, Ruth wrote to thank the choir for its support, for not questioning (too much) her music 17 years experience choices and for performing everything to such a high standard. Ruth is very busy – both Monday 11am-12noon at St Columbanus’ school where she teaches and in Bangor Ladies Choir where she sings. Her dedication to St. Gall’s choir also meant she wasn’t able to visit her parents Monday 6-7pm St Galls (in Ballycastle) as often as she might otherwise. For all these reasons Ruth was unable Wednesday 6.30-7.30pm St Galls to commit to the role full time, but we really appreciate her efforts over the last four months of 2016. She has managed to keep the choir together, challenging us with some Thursday 11am-12noon St Galls new music and putting up with our ‘advice’ about hymn speed and how to chant psalms! STRENGTH, CARDIO & CORE CLASSES So, as Ruth leaves the organ stool and David and Chris take over during January, we look BODY BLITZ Thursday 6.30 - 7.30pm to the future at St. Gall’s choir. As many of you know, advertisements were placed in the "I have been around professional sport for many years, but seldom Gazette in late summer. We have followed this up by handing out leaflets to those attending the annual concert of the Ulster Society of Organists and have I come across a fitness programme that is as well presented as Choirmasters in Belfast last November. More recently, through friends of the choir, the Caroline's." position was mentioned in the Society’s December bulletin. Bob Zeller, Founder of the Belfast Giants. Whilst there has been some interest in the vacancy, a full time replacement has yet to be appointed and the choir members ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming months. As we look forward to Lent, Holy Week and Easter, we hope to be able to sing more challenging pieces again. So, if you know of anyone who might have the ability required, please let us know - and spread the word as much as you can about the opportunity.
