M, T, Th, &F @8am 9:30 am - St. Michael Strengthened by the Word of God and His sacraments, Wednesday - Noon 10 am - St. Januarius we go forth in faith to love and serve one another. Not online? Call the Office and we can help with alternate ways connect you to bulletin information May May is a month that the Catholic Church has consecrated to our mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. People pray the rosary, crown Mary, or have a personal and special devotion to the mother of God. Also, we celebrate our Mother’s Day, and ask to Mary, our heavenly mother, to intercede not only for our mothers, but for all mothers in the world. The Blessed Virgin Mary has been present in human history through her different apparitions. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of the Mount Carmel, Our Lady of the Snow, Our Lady of the Milk, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Our Lady of Graces, Our Lady of La Salette, Our Lady of Knock, Our Lady of the Good Event, Our Lady of Laus, Our La- dy of Good Help, Our Lady of Pontmain, Our Lady of Hope, Our Lady of Gietrzwałd, etc., are some of the apparitions of our Blessed Virgin throughout the world. They are manifestations of God’s love to us regardless the culture, nationality, language, or race. For this reason, this month is consecrated to Mary, so that all human- kind can praise the Lord through the presence of our Blessed Mother. In addition, May is not only a month consecrated exclusively to our mother. May 1st is the day of St. Joseph, the worker. St. Joseph, as all of us know, is the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was always protecting her, and the child Jesus in Nazareth. With this celebration of St. Joseph, the worker, we are praying for all the work- ers around the world, and for their dignity as human beings. Let us pray for all the workers have a fair wage and all the benefits that they need. Let us pray also for many people who lost their jobs because of this pandemic or any another reason. Let us pray for many men and women who have not found any job. Let us consecrate these people and ourselves to St. Joseph, the worker, so we can have a quality life with fair wages and can have a life according to the human dignity that God gave us. Let us pray: “O Glorious Saint Joseph, model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in a spirit of penance for the expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my natural inclinations; to work with thankfulness and joy, considering it an honor to employ and de- velop by means of labor the gifts received from God; to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, never shrinking from weariness and trials; to work above all with purity of inten- tion and detachment from self, keeping unceasingly before my eyes death and the account that I must give of time lost, talents unused, good omitted, and vain complacency in success, so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all through Mary, all after thy example, O Patriarch, Saint Joseph. Such shall be my watch-word in life and in death. Amen.” – Pope St. Pius X May the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, the worker, be with each one of us. God bless you! Fr. The wonderful ensuing spiritual experiences inspired me in those early days to immerse myself once again in my Roman Catholic faith. However, the following testimony is about a very humble servant of God named Emma de Guzman, who, through the presence and grace bestowed by the Blessed Virgin Mary, has had many miracles emanate in her presence.

The Marian Library of the University of Dayton PRELIMINARY NOTE The following report on the Marian Library at the University of Dayton was prepared in r969 at the request of Rev. Robert Maloy, S.M., who was then the director of this special collection. While primarily a history outlining the developments of the library's first twenty-five years, the report is likewise intended to evaluate some ofthe activities undertaken and to indicate some possible endeavors for the future. This will account for the occasional paragraphs of "editorial comment" that appear at various points. The writer had still another end in mind: to acknowledge the debt of gratitude owed to those who, in so many different ways, have shown a personal interest in the library's continued growth. A few of these colla borators will be mentioned by name. There are, however, countless others whose generosity has made it possible for the library to move ahead and to achieve some significant goals.

From the beginnings of human history, people have designated particular locations as sacred and traveled to them in a pilgrimage. When Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire in 314 CE, Christian shrines emerged very soon at martyrs’ tombs and other places of historical importance in development of this religion. The distribution of physical relics created many of the Christian shrines in Western Europe. Popular belief concerning Mary began to evolve upon Jesus’ death; and in turn, most of these beliefs were adopted into Roman Catholic doctrine and became Mariology or Marianism, the veneration of Mary. In Western Europe, a number of shrines were created from an apparition of Mary to local people, and with any shrine’s approval by the institutional Church, it gained an international reputation and following; shrines not granted this approval by the Church have remained less internationally well-known and mostly locally based.

Space holder for those who prefer viewing 2-page spreads This book belongs to the public domain. You are most welcome to download it and share it. Anyone has permission to print it as a fresh publication. This edition utilizes a PDF currently available on the internet. Corrupt pages were rescanned from a printed text borrowed from a Carmelite monastery. Neither the printed copy, nor the PDF, provided the original date of publication. Text in the appendices suggests that the book was printed by the Blue Army press in the early 1970s. However, the introduction explains that the text is an English translation of a 1939 French publication, which was a re-publication of the “first edition” of 1871. In other words, this text is a foundational docu- ment for learning the events of Pontmain. Almost everything else is merely a commentary. This edition adds a third appendix to provide an update on the good priest who was present during this apparition in his parish. Colored artwork replaces black and white photos on some pages. In this old-fashioned layout the cover was counted as page 1 (Added by the translator for the A. M. I. edition.) As Bishop Paul Richaud said in his preface to What Happened at Pontmain? “An entire spirituality unfolds from the apparition of Pontmain which is inexhaustible.” There is an intimate connection between Pontmain and the beginning of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
