Liz Dears, Esq. Moe Auster, Esq. Pat Clancy

The minutes from the June 2nd and July 7th meetings of the Executive Committee were unanimously approved.

Joseph Sellers, MD noted that the State and Federal Candidate Subcommittees met in recent weeks and identified a limited number of candidates for endorsement.

Dr. Sellers asked for a vote on the four Congressional candidates recommended by the Federal Candidate Evaluation Subcommittee (FCES) each of whom who had demonstrated a strong commitment to issues effecting physician care delivery and who worked closely with local physicians. They were supported unanimously. Those candidates are as follows:

Congressman Chris Collins (R-WNY) Congressman Joseph Crowley (D- Bronx, Queens) Congresswoman (R-NNY) Congressman (D-Capital District)

Staff noted that the feedback from local communities of an additional three potential candidates for endorsement was mixed and therefore recommended against an endorsement at this time. It was noted that recommendation could be made to ask for AMPAC support for one or more of these candidates in lieu of endorsement. Dr. Calamia, chair of the FCES, stated that it was the recommendation of the Subcommittee where local reaction was mixed to recommend against endorsement. As a result, the Committee agreed to not endorse these candidates who had come up for discussion:

Ex-State Senator Jack Martins (R-Nassau) Congressman (R-Onondaga) (R-Southern Tier, Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Schoharie)

The Committee considered the candidates recommended by the State Candidate Evaluation Subcommittee (SCES) each of whom who had demonstrated a strong commitment to issues effecting physician care delivery and who worked closely with local physicians. Those State Senate candidates include:

Senator Tom Croci (R-Suffolk) Senator Kemp Hannon (R- Nassau) Senator Robert Ortt (R- Monroe, Niagara,, Orleans) Senator Michael Ranzenhofer (R-Erie, Genesee, Monroe) Ex-Assembly Member James Tedisco (Schenectady, Saratoga, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer) Senator Catherine Young (R- Allegany, Cattaragus, Chautauqua, Livingston)

The Committee unanimously recommended these candidates for endorsement.

Recommendation was made to also endorse Senator James Seward (Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Otsego, Schoharie, Tompkins and Ulster). It was noted that as chair of the powerful Senate Insurance Committee, Senator Seward has been strongly supportive of medical liability reform and opposed to regressive liability legislation. He has also been helpful on the out of network and step therapy proposals. This motion was unanimously supported.

The Committee then considered 7 of the 8 Assembly candidates that had been recommended by the SCES for endorsement. These included: Assembly Member Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) Assembly Member Michael Cusick (D- Richmond) Assembly Member Deborah Glick (D-) Assembly Member Richard Gottfried (D- New York) Assembly Member Charle Lavine (D- Nassau) Assembly Member Joseph Morelle (D- Monroe) Assembly Member Robing Schimminger (Erie, Niagara)

The Committee unanimously recommended these candidates for endorsement.

With regard to Assembly Member Matt Titone, who had been recommended by the SCES, it was noted that, at a recent Richmond County Medical Society meeting, Assembly Member Titone strenuously verbalized his opposition any tort reform and strongly supported the date of discovery bill. As a result, despite having sponsored the step therapy bill and having opposed the opioid day limit and mandatory CME legislative proposals when they came before the Health Committee, the Committee unanimously agreed to not endorse Assembly Member Titone.

It was noted that the list of recommended endorsements will now be considered by the MSSNY Council.
