E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. This paper investigates the butterfly fauna of the ‘Serra do Rola-Moça’ State Park, Minas Gerais, Brazil. We eval- uate i) the seasonal variation of species richness and composition; and ii) the variation in composition of the local butterfly assemblage among three sampling sites and between the dry and rainy seasons. Sampling was carried out monthly between November 2012 and October 2013, using entomological nets. After a total sampling effort of 504 net hours, 311 species were recorded. One of them is endangered in Brazil, and eight are probable new species. Furthermore, two species were new records for the region and eight considered endemic of the Cerrado domain. There was no significant difference in species richness between the dry and the rainy seasons, however the species composition varies significantly among sampling sites. Due to its special, heterogeneous environment, which is home to a rich butterfly fauna, its preservation is important for the conservation of the regional butterfly fauna.

The fifth chapter of the series about Rudolf Schlechter’s South-American orchids introduces us to those botanists and orchid collectors who travelled and worked in Ecuador and Peru and supplied Schlechter with many of the new orchid species he described. As in previous chapters, the biographies and accomplishments of these travellers are preceded by brief geographical and historical outlines for each of these countries. It is worth mentioning that the lives and orchids of such prominent figures in the orchidology of South America as F.C. Lehmann, W. Hennis, E. Bungeroth and E. Ule, who collected in Ecuador and Peru, have already been mentioned in previous chapters and are therefore omitted here. Giaretta2, Natan M. Maciel3, Diego A. Barrera4,Cesar´ Aguilar-Puntriano4,5,Celio´ F. B. Haddad1, Marcelo N. C. Kokubum6, Marcelo Menin7, and Ariadne Angulo4,5 Adenomera andreae and A. hylaedactyla are two widespread Amazonian frogs that have been traditionally distinguished from each other by the use of different habitats, toe tip development, and more recently through advertisement calls. Yet, taxonomic identification of these species has always been challenging. Herein we undertake a review of type specimens and include new phenotypic (morphology and vocalization) and mitochondrial DNA information for an updated diagnosis of both species. Our morphological analysis indicates that the single type (holotype) of A. hylaedactyla could either belong to lineages associated with Amazonian forest-dwelling species (A. andreae clade) or to the open-formation morphotype (A. hylaedactyla clade). Given the holotype’s poor preservation, leading to the ambiguous assignment of character states for toe tip development, as well as a vague type locality encompassing a vast area in eastern Ecuador and northern Peru, the identity of this specimen is uncertain. Morphology of toe tip fragments and the original species description suggest that A. hylaedactyla could correspond to at least two described species (A. andreae or A. simonstuarti) or additional unnamed genetic lineages of the A. andreae clade, all bearing toe tips expanded into discs. Analysis of morphometric data, however, clustered the holotype with the Amazonian open-formation morphotype (toe tips unexpanded).

Lamentablemente, la fauna de mariposas de Guatemala es poco conocida y por lo tanto, es necesario llevar a cabo un estudio y análisis de la composición y la diversidad de las mariposas (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) en Guatemala.

We heard singles on several days in the lowlands on the road to El Paraiso. Kalinowski's Tinamou (Nothoprocta kalinowskii). One of the rarest of Peru birds (seen on about 3 times since re- discovery, we (6 of us) spent about 10 minutes fanning through puna in the Ancash Dept. where they'd been recently reported. One flushed at our feet and circled back past us. Yippee, Yippee, Yippee!!! Ornate Tinamou (Nothoprocta ornata). Daniel watched two above the lake in the upper Santa Eulalia valley; and the rest of us were able to get one to flush a few minutes later. Andean Tinamou (Nothoprocta pentlandii). We had a quick view in the lower Santa Eulalia valley, but the best was a bird seen for a few seconds in flight right after we had seen the Russet-backed Spinetails near San Damian.

The purpose of this paper is to present an initial helminth list for Alopoglossus angulatus and A. atriventris. Parasite communities of two Nineteen Alopoglossus angulatus (mean snout–vent length [SVL] = 42.1±13.4 mm, range 24–60 mm) and 16 A. lizard species, Alopoglossus atriventris (SVL = 36.9±9.2 mm, range 21–48 mm) were angulatus and Alopoglossus borrowed from the herpetology collection of the Sam No- ble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History (OMNH) and atriventris, from Brazil and examined for helminths. Stomachs from these lizards had previously been removed and were not available for this Ecuador study. Collection localities are as follows. E-mail: [email protected]; [email protected] Abstract A new species of Anomaloglossus is described from the Venezuelan Guayana; it is the 21st described species of Anomaloglossus from the Guiana Shield, and the 15th from Venezuela. This species inhabits rainforest on granitic substrate on the northwestern edge of the Guiana Shield (Estado Amazonas, Venezuela). The new species is distinguished from congeners by sexual dimorphism, its unique male color pattern (including two bright orange parotoid marks and two orange paracloacal spots on dark brown background), call characteristics and other morphological features. Though to the new species is known only from the northwestern edge of the Guiana Shield, its distribution may be more extensive, as there are no significant biogeographic barriers isolating the type locality from the granitic lowlands of Venezuela.
