Each year the gala is a re-imagined tour de force that depends on the organization and artistry of the Emmy® Event Committee and dozens of skilled craftspeople. Emmy® Event Committee Chair Karen Sutton leads the way tonight from the new SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. The Emmy® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sci- ences (NATAS). This year a record number of entries were received by our chapter in 67 categories; 761 English and 135 Spanish. Tonight the gala originates from what may be our most stylish venue to date. It’s certainly the jazziest. Have fun, and the best of luck. I hope that your nomination is transformed into Emmy® gold! Compton, NATAS (Executive Director) - 8 - 2014-2015 Awards Judging Procedures The San Francisco/Northern California Chapter annually honors outstanding individual, news and program achievements in Northern California, Hawaii and Reno. The purpose of conferring the coveted Emmy® statuette is to provide incentive for continuing outstanding individual and pro- duction achievements within the television industry. The Emmy® Awards program is also a means of focusing public attention upon the multi-talented individuals who comprise this business and to honor them. There can be one award, more than one award or no award pre- sented in each category. This was a record year with 896 entries (761 English and 135 Spanish) submitted in 67 categories from the calendar year 2014, for Emmy® award consideration. All entries were submitted and uploaded through Emmy® Express and then judged online by the following NATAS chapters: Chicago/Midwest; Mid-Atlantic (Philadel- phia); Northwest (Seattle); and Suncoast (Miami). At least five peers viewed and scored each entry. English and Spanish entries were judged separately. The online programs were scored for content, creativity, and execution (1 to 10 points), for a possible total of 30 points. Craft categories were judged on creativity and execution only, for a possible 20 points. After scoring all the entries in the category, the judge certified his or her scores and the ballot was sent directly to Spalding and Company, our accounting firm for processing. A tabulated sheet representing each category, with separate entries for English and Spanish-but not identified-was presented to the Awards Committee. The committee determined a cut-off score in each category and entries above that score were considered nominees. The committee then selected the Emmy® recipients by highest scores. The Awards Committee members made these selections without knowing which entries or categories were being considered. The nominations were announced May 6, 2015 on the Internet. 230 English and 57 Spanish entries were nominated with 873 certificates being handed out to 517 individuals. Tonight, we recognize the top scores of Emmy® award excellence. - 9 - Musical Director Marcus Shelby Marcus Anthony Shelby is a bandleader, composer, arranger, bassist, educator, and activist who currently lives in San Francisco, California. Over the past 25 years he has built a diverse biography as a composer. His work and music has focused on sharing the history, present, and future of African American lives, on social movements in the United States of America, and on early childhood music education. Currently, Shelby is an artist in residence with the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival and the Artistic Director of the Marcus Shelby Orchestra. In March 2013, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee appointed Shelby to the San Francisco Arts Commission where he serves on the Community Arts Grants and Education Committee and the Street Artists Committee. Vocalist Tiffany Austin Vocalist, songwriter, and educator Tiffany Austin is a native of Los Angeles, California, where she was an event performer and session singer. She has received classical voice training in both England and America, and has studied jazz at the Jazz Institute in Berkeley, California. She lived in Tokyo,

    1 5/2/18 V1 47th Annual NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA EMMY® AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED The 47th Annual Northern California Area EMMY® Award Nominations were announced Wednesday, May 2rd on the chapter’s website. The EMMY® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/ Northern California is one of the nineteen chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of media companies and individuals from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries aired during the 2017 calendar year. This year 784 English entries were received in 62 categories and 218 entries in the Spanish contest in 42 categories. English and Spanish language entries were judged and scored separately. A minimum of seven peer judges from other NATAS chapters scored each entry on a scale from 1 to 10 on Content, Creativity and Execution. (Craft categories were judged on Creativity and Execution only). The total score was divided by the number of judges. The mean score was sorted from highest to lowest in each category. The Chapter Awards Committee looked at blind scores (not knowing the category) and decided on the cut off number for nominations and recipients. In the English contest KNTV NBC Bay Area received 27 nominations. The Spanish contest KUVS Univision 19 received 28. Individual honors went to Luis Godínez, Assistant News Director, KDTV Univision 14, San Francisco received ten nominations. KDTV’s Joseph Perry, Photographer/Editor and KUVS Univisioin 19 Sandra Cervantes, Anchor/Reporter and Eduardo Mancera Mancera each received nine.

    MISCELLANEOUS Phoenix Municipal Stadium, the A’s Spring Training home OAKLAND-ALAMEDA COUNTY COLISEUM FRONT OFFICE 2009 ATHLETICS REVIEW The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum plays host to concerts, conventions and other large gatherings in addi- tion to serving as the home for the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders. The A’s have used the facility to its advantage over the years, posting the second best home record (492-318, .607) in the Major Leagues over the last 10 seasons. In 2003, the A’s set an Oakland record for home wins as they finished with a 57-24 (.704) record in the Coliseum, marking the most home wins in franchise history since 1931 RECORDS when the Philadelphia Athletics went 60-15 at home. In addition, two of the A’s World Championships have been clinched on the Coliseum’s turf. The Coliseum’s exceptional sight lines, fine weather and sizable staging areas have all contributed to its popularity among performers, promoters and the Bay Area public. The facility is conveniently located adjacent to I-880 with two exits (Hegenberger Road/66th Avenue) leading directly to the complex. Along with the Oracle Arena, which is located adjacently, it is the only major entertainment facility with a dedicated stop on the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. The Oakland International Airport is less than a two-mile drive from the Coliseum with shuttle service to several local hotels and restaurants. In October of 1995, the Coliseum HISTORY began a one-year, $120 renovation proj- ect that added 22,000 new seats, 90 luxury suites, two private clubs and two OAKLAND-ALAMEDA COUNTY COLISEUM state-of-the-art scoreboards.

This is a lifetime achievement award for service to the community and television industry. Three station awards were presented. Overall Excellence went to KGO ABC 7. KGO ABC 7 also received the Community Service Award for “End Hunger Now.” News Excellence was awarded to KPIX CBS 5, “CBS 5 Eyewitness News.” The recipients of the coveted Evening Newscast Emmy® Awards went to: Large Markets: “ABC 7 News at 6:00,” KGO ABC 7, and “Noticias Univision 14 Solo A las Once,” KDTV Univision 14, San Francisco; Medium Markets: “Action News at Six,” KFSN ABC 30, and “Noticias 21 Evening Newscast,” KFTV Univision 21, Fresno; Smaller Markets: “KSBW Action News 8,” KSBW 8, Salinas. The most honored individuals were Anna Werner, Reporter, KPIX CBS 5, San Francisco and Christian Anguiano, Photographer/Editor, KUVS Univision 21, Sacramento with four statuettes each. Receiving three trophies were: Robert Genolio and Abby Sterling, KPIX CBS 5, Pamela Diaz and Santiago Lucero, KUVS Univision 19, Sacramento. A total of 215 Emmy® statues were awarded to 180 individuals. Emmy® Awards go to individuals, but there is always interest in the station award account: KPIX CBS San Francisco 13; KUVS Univision 19, Sacramento ten; KGO ABC 7 and KNTV NBC Bay Area both had six; Hawaii’s KGMB 8 had five.
