THE HERITAGE FUND OF ST MARY'S BRADFORD ABBAS AGM AND APPEAL FOR NEW MEMBERS: At the centre of our village stands the lovely old parish church, its tower a landmark for miles around. The church belongs to everyone in the village and it is open every day for people to enjoy, or just a special place where people can be quiet and say some prayers. So many we know have been married or baptised in this church, or lie in the churchyard. Villagers have always been generous in contributing to keeping this much-loved building standing, and the Heritage Fund was founded 20 years ago in October 1995 for exactly that purpose, to help ensure that St Mary's will be here for future generations. This is a fund simply for the fabric of the building itself. We now, however, need more members to keep things going. All it costs is an annual subscription, or single donation, however small, to the fund. If you would like to join the work of preserving this village landmark, an essential part of keeping the village alive, please do come to the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 20th May in the village hall at 8:00pm. Dear Friends As I write this letter for the magazine in the first week of March, and from our new home in Holwell, I am experiencing a variety of emotions. Firstly, I am recovering from our move from 'mid-Wales with snow on the ground! Secondly, it appears that we are still worshipping at the Shrine of St. Pickford's Box; an occurrence which I hope very soon wil1 end!! Fortunately we are unpacking now at a rate of knots. Thirdly, both Liz and I are very excited to have begun to share our lives and some fun times with you all. We have already experienced a warm welcome in the parishes and for that we thank you most sincerely. Prior to moving I had seven tiny parishes to look after in mid-Wales, together with being the Rural Officer for the Diocese and National Lead on Rural Affairs for the Church in Wales working with farmers and small rural communities. Liz was the Children's Officer for the Diocese. So as one lovely lady said to me recently, "With you coming to Dorset then, our rural children have really got it made". Well I'm not sure about that, but let's hope so!! Over the last two or three months or months or so I have been hearing with interest what has been happening within the White Hart Vale and more widely within the Three Valleys Team. I really cannot go much further without expressing my sincere thanks to the many folk who have worked so hard to ensure that the cart stayed on the rails during what has been a four year vacancy. Particularly, I must thank Anne and Keith Budgell, who have worked so tirelessly to keep things running and growing. Thank you. From my perspective this will all be a very hard act to follow. But follow we must and notjust to follow, but to move on and grow together in the love of Jesus Christ and to share that love with others. That is our mission - that is what we are all called to do. So thank you all again. I believe that by the time you read this article I shall have been licensed as House for Duty Team Vicar. During my first few weeks or so in post I intend to visit every parish in the patch to get to know the place, to meet as many of you as possible and to find out what makes each parish 'tick'. So if you see a very tall, bearded clergyman with a Yorkshire accent wandering about your parish looking extremely lost, please be kind to him - the chances are it will be me. Oh, and a mug of tea is always welcome! On a final note, Liz and I would appreciate your prayers as we begin our new ministry in your midst. With our love and prayers, as always. Richard Kirlew Team Vicar

Printed by J.H. Haynes & Co. Ltd. as a free service to the community. We are Claire and Ross Moore and we have moved in to the Grange in Church Road, Bradford Abbas, with our two boys Jack and Hugo. We have been made very welcome by the local villagers that we have met. However we have not been able to meet everyone and so we thought it would be good to send a message to you all via the Parish Newsletter.

For the past few years we have run a mobile catering service catering for weddings, private parties, christenings, business galas, fashion launches and sadly occasionally funerals. We provide an individually tailored service, always listening to the customer's req uirements. We use the highest quality ingredients and the best staff available. Each function is personal to us - we want to deliver the standard of service we look for ourselves. Until now we have always had to offer our service in a wide variety of venues which the customer has selected.

Our dream has always been to have our own venue and to hold a few functions a year to give the customer a fully integrated service. We believe we have found an amazing venue with the Grange in this beautiful Dorset village. We will be looking to host up to fifteen events per year and only ever on Saturdays. This element of our business will run alongside our other commitments which will take us around the south of and to London. We do not operate as a franchise but own several different companies.

Bringing our work here is a change for the village and we have thought long and hard how to ensure that local people's lives are not disrupted. Traffic and parking can be an issue in any community and we will ask all our customers and their guests to use a park and ride scheme to keep traffic out of the village. We have land that can be used for parking and we are also looking for additional parking for functions. In this way there should be no vehicles owned by guests parking in the road. There will be a steward on the premises during the functions to ensure our car parking requirements are met.

In terms of noise from functions we ask customers to be sensitive about noise levels when guests leave. to keep music noise to a reasonable level and our contracts do not permit fireworks. Our steward will also monitor noise levels during the events and ensure these remain reasonable.

We are sincerely hoping that our business will enhance village life. We may be able to offer casual employment at functions for local people with catering experience. Access to additional car parking at times would be really helpful. It would be great to hear from any of you if you have further ideas please. In addition bringing visitors to the village will increase custom for local business. There will be a folder at the Grange where visitors can find contact details for a wide range of local services. If any local business would like their details included please to not hesitate to contact us.

On a personal note Claire and I would love to support local good causes. We are intending to take cuttings from our garden plants and if any guests at a function would like to take home a little memento they can do so by leaving a donation. Claire and I will match the amount taken on the day and give it to one of the local good causes. A different one each time of course. We would also like to hear about the Village Fair and how we can help with that.

Bye for now
