    Ceili Rain Biography With the exception of two miserable days as an electrician's assistant, Bob Halligan, Jr. has never held a "day job" in his life. The lead singer, songwriter, guitarist and creative force behind the Celtic-flavored rock band Ceili (KAY-lee) Rain has earned his living—and reputation—as a working musician and songwriter for most of his life. Halligan has parlayed that well-deserved acclaim as a writer into a recording career that has seen the release of three highly praised albums for Ceili Rain, the most recent being the Cross Driven (Provident distribution) release, Erasers On Pencils. Erasers On Pencils is the latest celebrated chapter in a career that has found the Nashville-based band continuing to assert itself on both national and international stages. The album once again finds Halligan utilizing his gift for taking universal themes and distilling their essence into a lyrical approach that is capable of touching an audience on a very personal level. The opener, “Jigorous,” for example, tells the story of an aging woman reveling in life again at the sound of a familiar melody; “The Fighting Chair” uses a fishing analogy to encourage the listener to live life to its fullest; “God Done Good” finds Halligan overcome with thanksgiving for his wife and adopted son. “I have no problem laying bare such personal stories,” Halligan asserts. “What else have I got as a songwriter to offer but myself? I find that the things that really get to me are the things that get to others.” Indeed, Halligan has a knack for taking the big ideas and reducing them to their deepest, most emotional roots.

This seminar examines JAY-Z from different perspectives as an artist and as a businessman. The seminar will discuss perspectives and beliefs about rap music and popular culture. JAY-Z is currently one of the most influential iconic figures of Global Pop Culture. His music embodies the quintessentially “African American” genre of music, we will study his musical roots, trace the development of his career and connect JAY-Z with his culture. An analysis of his business empire will include his drug-marked youth, musical achievements, and urban-informed business savvy. The Seminar will discuss his lyrics and their meanings which reveal JAY-Z’s art and life. JAY-Z heavily borrows from American musical and literary traditions through an examination of select recordings, autobiography, film, essays and criticism, this Seminar will provide students the opportunity to discover the significance of JAY-Z’s contributions to lyric writing, popular music, and beyond. The following resources will facilitate students learning development by using multiple content formats. DJ Hero will engage students through gameplay, simulating DJ turntablism (mixing styles and techniques) connecting gaming activities to assignments, discussions, and projects on JAY-Z and current Rap artists.

By working with leading authors who represent the very best the profession has to offer for all levels from preschool through college and beyond, GIA seeks to help music teachers communicate the joy, art, skill, complexity, and knowledge of musicianship. This year we again offer a wide range of new resources for early childhood through college. Scott Edgar explores Music Education and Social Emotional Learning (page 7); the legendary Teaching Music through Performance in Band series moves to Volume 11 (page 8); Scott Rush publishes Habits of a Significant Band Director (page 9) and together with Christopher Selby releases Habits of a Successful Middle Level Musician (pages 10-11). Look at the wide range of areas where alcohol and other drugs may have had an impact, and flag those where you see issues. Make a plan to get more information and professional help if indicated. Page 35 Second Domain: My Exposure. Survey your immediate environment and flag the points where you are exposed to triggers. Safely dispose of your supplies. Chart a route to avoid slippery places. Create safe spaces. Learn a tool for building your recovery reflexes (the Daily Do). Page 57 Third Domain: My Activities. How are you spending your time? Which of your activities are dangerous to your sobriety, and which are safe? Decide which activities to avoid for now. Look for new activities that will help your recovery. Evans Center for Counseling and Family Studies Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling This phenomenological inquiry investigated the loneliness experienced by recovering alcoholics. Select participants responded to open-ended interview questions pertaining to their experience of loneliness as well as its impact on their lives. Moreover, participants were asked to indentify what factor or factors may have contributed to the onset or persistence of their loneliness. Phenomenological analysis of the data revealed that loneliness, as experienced by recovering alcoholics, is a recursive experience that is co-morbid with a number of debilitating affects. Therefore, the loneliness that was experienced during recovery represented just one part of a combination of painful affective experiences.
