We have a special need for certifi ed welders, carpenters, electricians and painters, as well as people who sell tickets in the depot and assist in offi ce work. We are looking to create teams of people to “adopt a car.” These “adoption projects” can be as simple as preparing a car for daily service or undertaking a restoration of a car. Let us consider some restoration projects: • North Shore car 761 – This car ran at 80 mph providing service connecting Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha with Waukegan, North Chicago, Lake Bluff and Chicago. Long remembered by people in Southeastern Wisconsin, this car needs considerable welding work to get it back in service. • Cabooses – Kids, young and old, love to ride in cabooses. We want to give them that opportunity. We have four cabooses that need preparation for painting, woodworking on the interiors and installing new windows. • South Shore car 203 – This car needs a new roof and a new fl oor requiring signifi cant carpentry skills. Four chairs need to be re-upholstered and a very intensive deep cleaning is needed to turn this car in a “lunch car” so we can operate lunch trains. There are other projects we would like to undertake to enhance the visitor’s experience. So what is happening in 2011: All Aboard! • Little Obie is coming to visit in May.
