Curtis Aquatic Center Swim Lesson Information Packet

Welcome to the Curtis Aquatic Center!!! As a new family in our lesson program, we understand you might have a lot of questions. Hopefully this packet will answer them. We here at the Curtis Aquatic Center, pride ourselves on making sure that our program provides the necessary knowledge and skills to further your child’s ability. All while at the same time, offering a safe and fun environment to do so. Our program was founded on the principal that every person should feel safe and secure around all bodies of water; as such our instructional staff will also review important water safety rules with the swimmers each and every day!

General Program Information (School Year)  The Swim Lesson Program is available for all children age 4 and up.  We have four available half hours: 6:30pm, 7:00pm, 7:30pm, & 8:00pm.  A medical/liability waiver must be filled out during the registration period by a parent/legal guardian. This has to be completed before your child can enter the water.  Our swim lesson session runs roughly seven weeks and has a total of seven classes. (We will have multiple sessions throughout the year).  7 night session rate: $56.00 (lessons rate of $50.95, plus $5.05 tax).  Lessons primarily take place on Tuesday evenings; however there will be some sessions with Thursday night classes as well.

First Day:  On the first day of the swim lesson session, all your child will need is a swimsuit and a towel. Goggles are allowed in levels 3-10. In Levels 1 & 2-goggles are prohibited. We want your child to become as comfortable in the water as possible. A swimmers ability to not be completely reliant on goggles will help with this process.  When you enter the Aquatic Center, make sure your child gets dressed in their suit and bring them onto the pool deck, near the locker room entrances.  At the start of their lesson time, we will call all of the kids out from the locker rooms, line them up, and start calling them forward based on their levels. This is when they will be introduced to their instructor(s) and shown where their level is located.  On the first day, our instructing staff gives each swimmer an individual “test” to determine if your swimmer is placed in the correct level. Final level placement is determent by Curtis aquatic Center staff. Correct level placement is crucial for a swimmer to advance their swimming skills and knowledge.  Family/friends of the swimmers must sit in the bleachers, either upstairs or on deck.

1

 Once the lesson is over your child may exit the pool deck and head into the locker room to shower/change.  For younger swimmers, once the lesson is over, you may come and pick up your child near the diving boards and exit into the locker room to shower/get dressed.

Following Days:  After the first day, we will ask that your child waits outside of the locker room or remain in the bleachers, a pool staff member will announce when it is time to head to their class. If your child still needs assistance finding their class, feel free to accompany them until they reach their level.  Again, after their lesson, you may meet your swimmer(s) on deck by the diving boards and exit through the locker rooms.

Second to Last Day:  Your child will be tested by their instructor on the skills that they have learned throughout the session. This “test” is used to assess the progress and skill growth of each student, as well as the program’s recommendation for future sessions. The findings will be formulated in a cumulative “report card,” awarded at the end of the final lesson.

Last Day:  On the last day of the session, they will join their class as normal. The last class will begin as any other day, exercise and instruction of the necessary skills will still be practiced. However, towards the end of the class, all levels will set aside a certain amount of time dedicated to fun swimming activities and games. Levels 5-10 will also have the opportunity to experience jumping or diving off the diving boards!  After blast off, each student will receive an individual “report card” outlining their proficiency in required skills, what needs to be improved upon, and a plan for future growth.  If you will be continuing in our swim lessons program, you’re in luck! You are now eligible to register your child on the Pre-Registration date for the following session. Levels 1-3 must still register in person at the Curtis Aquatic Center. Swimmers in Levels 4-10 can be completed in- person at the Curtis Aquatic Center, or online by visiting the pool’s website (Online registration will only be available on the pre-registration date and time). Instructions to the website are listed at the end of this packet. All registration dates and times will also be posted at the Curtis Aquatic Center or on our website.
