17 Weggis-Vitznau-Rigi www.weggis-vitznau.ch

Nestled between Lake Lucerne and the foot of the Rigi are the two idyllic resorts of Weggis and Vitznau. This region is known as the Lucerne Riviera, owing to the mildness of the climate that encourages warmth-loving flora such as palms, orchids and chestnut trees. Experience pleasure between mountain and lake.

Ancient villages Over the years, notable personalities from the worlds of art and culture have chosen to make their home in this romanti- cally situated region – or to come here on holiday. They include the American writer Mark Twain and the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. Queen Victoria also visited the Rigi during her stay in Switzerland and admired the wonderful vista. The British artist William Turner liked the Rigi so much that he featured it more than 30 times in his atmos- pheric paintings.

Exercise outdoors Exercise, relaxation and enjoyment go hand-in-hand in the Weggis Vitznau Rigi holiday region. In summer, stroll along the lakeside promenade or follow panoramic mountain paths. The Rigi offers 120 kilometres of footpaths and breathtaking views. In winter, there’s sledging and snowshoe trekking through snowy mountainscapes.

660 rooms with lake view There are 34 hotels in the Weggis Vitznau Rigi wellbeing region with 1300 rooms. 660 rooms offer views of the lake. 660 vistas offering superb mountain and lake panoramas. Always different – always stunning. After all, there’s nothing nicer than waking up in the morning, opening the curtains and being greeted by the glittering lake.

18 Weggis Vitznau Rigi

Gastronomy The atmosphere between the lake and the mountain is as seductive, welcoming and varied as the local cuisine. Between them, the restaurants in Weggis, Vitznau and on the Rigi have 106 Gault&Millau points and five Michelin stars. Hand-picked ingredients, innovative blends of flavours and unique taste experiences are a matter of course for these award-winning restaurants. The views of Lake Lucerne from here are perfect, as is the welcome from the kitchen.

Rigi The Rigi is a magnificent natural arena featuring peaks, valleys and imposing rocky slopes. Europe’s first mountain railway, Switzerland’s first mountain inn, nine aerial cableways and cog railways, kilometres of footpaths and breathtaking distant views make for unforgettable outings. Spring, summer, autumn or winter: getting out there and enjoying life is easy on the Queen of the Mountains.

Relaxation and enjoyment The lapping of the waves of Lake Lucerne and the enchanting mountains have an inspiring and calming effect on body and soul. The numerous opportunities for wellness, peace and relaxation provide strength and a change of routine from everyday life. “Yoga meets Weggis” is an annual yoga festival held in the region. Yoga sessions by the lake, a summer festival in the Weggis Pavilion and a three-day yoga festival in the autumn attract national and international leading lights of yoga to the Lucerne Riviera.
