RESUMEN Se estudió la variación altitudinal de la composición, riqueza, diversidad y estructura de la comunidad de mariposas diurnas en un gradiente altitudinal en la cuenca del río Combeima (Juntas-Tolima, Colombia), desde los 1.800 m hasta los 3.000 m a lo largo del año en tres periódos de muestreo, mediante el uso de redes entomológicas y tram- pas VanSomeren-Rydon. Se encontraron 101 especies de mariposas distribuidas en 59 géneros y cinco familias cuyos parámetros poblacionales variaron espacial y temporal- mente, mostrando marcada zonificación altitudinal en los 1.900 m la cual es una franja transicional de la composición faunística y en la que a partir de ella, existe un decre- mento en el número de especies exclusivas para cada estación de muestreo, las cuales podrían considerarse como especies indicadoras de disturbio ecosistémico. -

Knowledge about transmission remains incomplete, especially concerning potential transmission in geographic areas in which it has not yet been introduced. To identify unknown vectors of Zika, we developed a data-driven model linking vector species and the Zika virus via vector-virus trait combinations that confer a propensity toward associations in an ecological network connecting flaviviruses and their mosquito vectors. Our model predicts that thirty-five species may be able to transmit the virus, seven of which are found in the continental United States, including Culex quinquefasciatus and Cx. pipiens. The sample was collected during the Characterization of wild Entomofauna of the Frio river basin jurisdiction of CDMB, in secondary forests in an altitudinal gradient from 1,000 to 2,911 masl. 79 specimens of the family Pieridae were collected, belonging to 13 genera of which Leptophobia had 5 species, and Catasticta and Eurema had 3 species each. We obtained 22 species distributed in six sampling locations, where the highest richness of species was in Diviso Experimental Center with 12 species and Esperanza Experimental Center with 10. The analysis of the inventory quality showed a potential richness of 32.81 species, a proportion of the observed species of 67.05% and a sampling effort of 76.41%. The comparison of inventories for each locality showed a certain similarity between La Nevera, La Mariana and La Judia, and fewer similarities with El Diviso. -

Checklists of the butterflies (Lepidoptera) collected in two rainforest study sites in the Tuxtlas Mts., Veracruz, Mexico are presented. A total of 182 species of butterflies were recorded at Laguna Encantada, near San Andres Tuxtla, and 212 species were recorded from the nearby Estacion de Biologia Tropical “Los Tuxtlas” (EBITROLOTU). We collected 33 species not included in G. Ross’ (1975–77) faunistic treatment of the region, 12 of which are new species records for the Tuxtlas. We present a list of the skipper butterflies (Hesperioidea) of the Tuxtlas, including a state record for the giant skipper, Agathymus rethon. At both study sites, we observed seasonal patterns in species abundance during periods of reduced precipitation. Our data indicate an apparent increase in butterfly species-richness in the Tuxtlas over the last 25 years. This increase reflects more efficient sampling due to advances in lepidopteran ecology and improved collecting methods, as well as the effects of habitat disturbance. A comparison between the butterfly faunas of the two rainforest sites revealed that a higher percentage of weedy, cosmopolitan species were present at Laguna Encantada, the smaller, more disturbed site. We anticipate further changes in butterfly species-richness and faunal composition as the mosaic of habitats in the Tuxtlas continue to be modified. -

Data are from 12 years field experience in the country and from Museums specimens. Some new species records are added to Ecuadorian fauna and it is presumed that at least a 10% more of new records will be obtained in the near future. Ecuadorian Pieridae, although in the past many taxa were described from this country, are far from being thoroughly known. One of the most prolific author was Hewitson (1852-1877; 1869-1870; 1870; 1877) who described many species from the collections made by Buckley and Simons . Some of the "Ecuador” citations by Hewitson are pointed out more precisely by the same author (Hewit son , 1870) in his index to the list of species collected by Buckley in remote areas uneasily reached even to-day (V ane -Wright, 1991). An important contribution on Lepidoptera of Ecuador is given by Dognin (1887-1896) who described and listed many new species collected by Gaujon in the Loja area, where typical amazonian and páramo species are included. -

Esta lista es el resultado de muestreos sistemáticos de estos taxones en un conjunto de localidades del estado (principalmente en las cercanías de León y la Ciudad de Guanajuato) durante 1998-2004, así como de especímenes depositados en la Colección Nacional de Insectos. Se registran 12 de Papilionidae y 27 especies de Pieridae, de las cuales 4 y 15 respectivamente son nuevos registros para el estado. -

Diagnostic characters for the cinerea group of Catasticta and an annotated synonymic list of all taxa in the group (three species, plus seven subspecies) are given. Catasticta coerulescens (EITSCHBERGER et RACHELI, 1998) is elevated to species rank, and Catasticta coerulescens intimpa BOLLINO et BOYER ssp. n. (Perú, Apurimac) is described as new. Key words: entomology, taxonomy, distribution, Bolivia, Catasticta, Colombia, Ecuador, Neotropical Pierinae, nomenclature, Peru, types, Venezuela. INtRoDuCtIoN the purpose of this paper is to continue the senior author’s research into the ge- nus Catasticta, presenting a phenetic diagnosis of a small group of fairly rare species. Members of the group appear to be closely related, sharing similar wing patterns, habits and habitats; they are also related to the members of the “amastris” and “uricoecheae” groups. As pointed out by LAMAS & BOLLINO (2004), these groups would be part of the subgenus Leodontoia EITSCHBERGER & RACHELI, 1998. We prefer to treat them as members of the genus Catasticta sensu lato until there is a phylogenetic revision of the whole genus. LAMAS (2004) considered all members of the group to be conspecific, with dif- ferent subspecies distributed all along the Andean Chain from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Colombia) southward to the Bolivian Yungas. BOLLINO & COSTA (2007) recently elevated C. rochereaui LE CERF, 1924 to specific status. -

Nehru Road Kolkata-700016, India INTRODUCTION Humid biome comprises primarily of wet evergreen, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park sub-tropical evergreen, moist deciduous, dry (formerly known as the Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary) deciduous, semi-evergreen and montane-shola lies in the Coimbatore District of Tamil N adu from grasslands. The terrain here is thickly wooded hills, 10 0 12Y2' to 11 °07'N latitude and 76°00' to 77°56Y2'E plateaus, deep valleys and rolling grasslands. Both southwest and northeast monsoons occur here. The area longitude at the southern part of the Nilgiri Biosphere is drained by several perennial and semi-perennial river Reserve in the Anamalai Hills.
