Na Fianna Nuacht Na Fianna Nuacht Big Senior Football Derby Match This Weekend Having ground out a hard-earned two points away to Lucan two weeks ago with an injury and Dub depleted side, Pillar’s boys are back home this week with a tasty fixture against Balymun Kickhams on Saturday evening at 6pm in Mobhi Rd. It was great to get John Kelly and Davy Quinn back on the pitch against Lucan after lengthy spells (7 months and 6 months respectively) rehabbing from serious injuries and with the cobwebs shook off now, they’ll be rearing to go against our neighbours. Also, big shout out to Alasdar Fitzgerald who is a member of the Dublin U21 panel and headed straight from Navan to Lucan to play a significant part winning the game. With Dublin playing Mayo in the Under 21 All Ireland semi-final on Saturday afternoon in Tullamore, we will again be without our quartet of county reps, but our loss in Dublin’s gain so hopefully we will see the lads in an All-Ireland final before we welcome them back to club action. We had a great contest in Pairc Ciceam last year when we managed to secure a rare enough away victory over Ballymun, so here’s hoping we continue our winning ways on home soil. Our neighbours will always have plenty of numbers coming down to support, so let’s make sure they don’t out-shout us and get down to Mobhi Rd for 6pm. Be a good evening’s entertainment. Weekend Fixtures Saturday at 6pm sees our Senior footballers play Ballymun Kickhams in Mobhi Road while Inters travel to Westmanstown to play Garda. On Sunday at 11am Senior 6 Camogie team play St Finians in Mobhi Road. Also on Sunday at 11am Junior A and C footballers are away in league. A’s are in Parnells and C’s travel to Cuala. Later at 3pm our J10’s play Clann Mhuire in Collinstown. All three Minor hurling teams are away at 11am. A’s play Barrógs, B’s play Round Towers Clondalkin while C’s travel to Ballyboden. Féile Hurling this Saturday with Na Fianna’s A team hosting in Collinstown and B’s in St Vincents Marino, see page 3 for more info. Best of luck to all teams, support welcome. Full fixture list on website. Na Fianna Nuacht 15ú Aibreán 2016 1 Na Fianna Nuacht Dublin U-21’s in All-Ireland Semis Dublin's U21 footballers face Mayo in O'Connor Park, Tullamore (2.45) in their EirGrid All- Ireland semi-final fresh from their provincial final success against Kildare. Best of luck to Na Fianna’s Aaron Byrne, Killian Deeley, Al Fitzgerald Eoin Murchan (joint Captain) and Glenn O’Reilly. Dublin’s Minor footballers face Offaly in the Leinster MFC first round in Parnell Park also on Saturday at 12 and best of luck to David Lacey and James Doran. 2005 Boys DCU Training Back in late March, the 2005 Boys had a very special one off football training session in the DCU High Performance Centre. The group got to train on the same facilities used by many of the Dublin squads including the senior footballers. The 2005 boys had the opportunity to walk in the shadows of the likes of Bernard Brogan, MDM, Tomás Brady, Jonny Cooper etc. If the 2005 Boys continue to train as hard as they do, we can expect Bernard Brogan, MDM, Tomás Brady, Jonny Cooper, etc. to have the opportunity to walk in the shadows of the 2005 Boys! Na Fianna Nuacht 15ú Aibreán 2016 2 Na Fianna Nuacht Féile 2016 This weekend it’s the turn of the hurlers in Féile. Na Fianna will field two teams in competition and while the B team will make the short trip to Marino to play their games in St Vincents, our A team will host in Collinstown. Our A’s will compete with Commercials, Noamh Barróg and Naomh Olaf while our B’s have Liffey Gaels, Pine Forest Gaels and hosts St Vincents in their group. The 2002 lads were presented with their Féile gear on Wednesday night by Jonny Cooper, Shane Barrett and Conor McHugh. Both teams start from 10am on Saturday and would love to have strong Na Fianna support. Best of luck lads. Members’ Subscriptions Due Members’ subscriptions for the coming year are overdue. The generosity of DCU’s friends and alumni towards the Campaign has enabled many of these pioneering projects to go from strength to strength in 2016. I hope that you will enjoy this report which documents many of the early successes of our campaign projects, made possible thanks to the philanthropic contributions of our supporters. Professor Brian MacCraith, President, Dublin City University: In 2016, we celebrated a number of major developments that advanced DCU’s mission to transform lives and societies through education, research and innovation. This report showcases many of these projects that were made possible by the vision and benevolence of our supporters. A notable highlight was the successful completion of the incorporation process which created DCU Institute of Education, the first faculty of Education in an Irish University, and brought the number of DCU students to over 17,000. Philanthropy continues to play an important role in enabling us to advance the University and to transform the lives of our students.
