Each month, COMIC SANS creates an engaging performance featuring a curated lineup of comedians and performers in an uplifting, community-minded space that celebrates the diversity of our community. Formerly Alice’s Big Queer Comedy Show, conceptualized by the show’s producer and host, Alice Rose, the show returns for its second season with monthly performances in Waterloo and Hamilton. The aim of COMIC SANS is to explore the art of stand-up comedy sans misogyny, sans rape jokes, sans harm. About the Show: Alice’s Big Queer Comedy Show was conceptualized in June 2018 as an initiative to establish a queer comedy scene in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Far too often the punchlines of a joke in mainstream comedy, Alice’s Big Queer Comedy Show sought instead to celebrate our diversity and empower our performers and audiences alike. The show has attracted a range of professional comedians to its stage, including Elvira Kurt (Canadian Comedy Award winner, Second City, CBC, Just For Laughs), Chanty Marostica (Just For Laughs, Sirius XM’s Top Comic, Workin’ Moms), Andrew Johnston (Just For Laughs, Much Music’s Video on Trial, Bitch Salad), Al Val (Yuk Yuks, Durham Region Comedy Festival), and Greg Brown (ASAP Science, Sidenote podcast). Under the new label of Comic Sans, the show now aims to expand its catchment to include all marginalized folx, and to incorporate additional forms of performance art such as burlesque, improv, and sketch comedy. The Waterloo edition of COMIC SANS returns August 21st with Dustin George, Michael Moses, Bee Bertrand, and Heather MacDonald! Created by Alice Rose. Produced by Alice Rose and Krista McNaughton. facebook.com/comicsanscomedyshow For all media inquiries, please contact Alice Rose at [email protected] or 647-642-1618 .
